Count Rostov and his friend, Mishka, liked to discuss Les Essais (The Essays of Michel de Montaigne). Voltaire thought of Montaigne as a revolutionary thinker. In this article, it briefly highlights these essays and the motivation from the man behind them to have some consider Michel de Montaigne the first modern man.
