P. IV. Chapters 1-3

Feel free to discuss anything here for chapters 1-3. Make sure your not popping into the thread before your done with chapter 3 to avoid being spoiled on anything. Let me or Natalie know if there is something specific you would like us to make a thread about within any chapters!

I love Sam's willingness to climb down the cliff immediately without having even looked for footholds just so that Frodo won't do it first. Even though technically Frodo is Sam's boss/'master' and Frodo is the one with the mission, you can tell that Sam is entirely motivated by his love for his friend.

I also love Frodo's patience with Gollum and just the way he treats him in general. Frodo doesn't judge him for his actions in the past because he understands how rough Gollum has had it, being tortured by the ring/Sauron etc. And obviously he sees that Gollum is useful for them right now. I bet Frodo can relate to Gollum as he is weighed down by the ring himself, and if I were him I would be worried about turning into a gollum in my near future.
