I am currently listening to an audio of the above book. It's very captivating, especially if you love to learn what goes on behind the scenes in radio, TV, and politics.
One of the sections which impressed me is the listing of the serious subjects which Edward R. Murrow's programs covered. He didn't like "fluff", even though he had to submit to it for various purposes. We need more men like Murrow nowadays... he was courageous, and talented enough to make a deep impression upon his listeners. You really have to hear and see the man to know how powerful his personality was. I saw the movie about him, "Good Night, and Good Luck", and although it was a good one, unless you see and hear the actual Murrow, you just can't appreciate how unique he was. ----------------------------------------------------- SEE HIM ON VIDEOS HERE: ====>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gr-Qx... TITLE: "Thirteen/WNET Opening Night Broadcast" (1962) (See him puffing on a cigarette while broadcasting, his typical habit.)
----------------------------------------------------- HEAR HIM AT:: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYVn0h... TITLE: "Edward R. Murrow reports the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp, 1945."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMWyXf... TITLE: "EDWARD R. MURROW --MY HERO" (A good review of his influence on history.) (You can also see him in this video.) -----------------------------------------------------
I'm glad I was around when Murrow was broadcasting live. Such a magnetic personality! Truly one of a kind. I still find him compelling to listen to, all these years later.
