That sounds heavenly!!! A true relaxing summer!!

We were super busy at work this year, but we took a couple quick vacations. We went with our cousins to our aunt's cabin on the lake! It's one of my favorite spots for swimming, fishing and just relaxing.

Then we just went to San Diego a week ago. It was the best! All three kids and my husband and I. It's not easy to get a vacation with your kids when they're grown, one is 30 and the other 27. Our son is 17 so he is still at home. Anyway we went all out and stayed at a nice resort. We paid for the kids to swim with dolphins and they loved it. We rented a jet ski for the day, relaxed by the pool and beach and drank too much. hahaha It was great and just want we needed for an end of summer vacation.

Next year, we're thinking of doing a cruise, so Karen you're going to have to tell us how yours went this year!!

I'm a teacher so I didn't have to work this summer. I stayed home with my two kids (7 and 8) and tried to make as many memories as possible. My husband had to work, though.

We started out the summer with a weekend trip to Tennessee and that was really fun! We like to hike and explore the great outdoors, so this was really fun weekend get away.

In July we took a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. We were first time cruisers, so we only took a 3 night/4 day cruise. We stopped in Nassau, Bahamas and then Disney's own private island in the Bahamas, as well. It was so much fun! We really enjoyed ourselves. My husband and myself had so much time to ourselves, because the kids wanted to go do their stuff that we didn't know what to do.

We spent a few days in Orlando before heading home. We stayed in a Disney Hotel (art of animation), went to a Disney Water Park (typhoon lagoon), went to Disney Springs, but we didn't make it to Disney World. That was okay, because we have been there before.

We spent a day and hiked in Hocking Hills (State Park in the Appalachian Foothills), which is only an hour from our house. Definitely take the time to explore your backyards. Some of these hikes rivaled the ones in the Smoky Mountains. And it is so close to home!

We have also spent many days boating on the Ohio River. We like to tube, water ski, and just chill. Very relaxing.

I just started my 12th year of teaching and the second week of the school year has come to a close. I'm exhausted, but I'm sure I'll get back in the swing of things soon enough.

I loved my summer but I'm super excited for this school year and the autumn season. It's one of my favorites! Bring on football, crunchy leaves, bonfires, and hoodies!

@Barb - super jealous of your doing nothing all summer! We like to do things with the kids, but sometimes I wonder if I'm cramming too much into the summer? I know when they ask what we are doing that day and I say nothing and they cheer, that they are beyond ready for a break!

@Chris - We had plans to go to California this summer, instead of a cruise, but switched at the last minute. We really wanted to hit the San Francisco area and then drive to Yosemite (since we are avid hikers)...we may still do that in a few years. We wanted the kids to be a little bigger so that they wouldn't complain as much about all the fun we would cram into the trip.

I can't wait to hear about everyone else's summer.

Vega_girl | 6624 comments It was nice, my kiddos are 12, 10, 8 and this year my husband allowed them to go spend a week with my mom in Texas a little over 5 hours away!!! So they did get out and they loved it, husband and I loved it too becuase it was like we were kids again without kids!! LOL!!
@Karen, Last year we went to Tenn. and it blew my mind!! It was absolutely gorgeous!! We also love to hike, however we only hiked a couple trails because they bear alerts were crazy!! I have no wish to ever encounter one, thank you very much!!
@Chris, I can't wait until we make it to San Fransico the Red Wood forest is one of our must sees of the U.S!!

Karen you children are adorable and you had a fun filled summer. I went to the Tennessee the Smokey Mountains a couple of years ago and loved it. It was so beautiful. Your cruise sounded great. Tons of fun for the kids and some adult fun time too! It makes for a nice family vacation. I didn't know that Disney had their own private island set up in the Bahama's. That must of been so cool for the kids.

@Karen & @Barbara, you both need to make the trip out to San Francisco. Just outside of San Francisco right over the Golden Gate Bridge is Muir Woods. It's a National Park filled with the Giant Redwoods and hiking trails. Just one of the many places you can visit. Yosmite is gorgeous Karen. We use to go every year a large group of us with our kids in October. I haven't been in a bit now that the kids are grown, but I miss going. My sister-in-law has a cabin in Groveland, which is about 24 miles before Yosemite and is a big rental area for people who want to visit Yosemite. The cabins belong to a Pine Mountain lake association and it's a great lake. They have a great beach area for the kids. If either of you decide to come out, I could recommend things to do and see. :D

Here is a picture of my kids with a dolphin from our vacation:

Sounds like everyone had a great summer! Love the pictures. :)

This summer flew by! We went on a few camping trips. This past weekend we were in Cannon Beach, OR camping. So beautiful. We also spent a few weekends at local soccer tournaments.

Vega_girl | 6624 comments Sounds like fun Deanna!! I love camping with the family we did that this weekend too!!
Ugh, is it horrible that I am already over soccer and we are only a month in!! All three of my kiddos play!!

@ Chris - Love the pic of your kiddos! My kids would love a dolphin encounter! I will definitely hit you up if/when we decide to plan a trip to California!
@Barb - Glad you got some time with your hubby while the kiddos were visiting their grandparents!
@Deanna/Barb - My kids didn't want to play soccer this year, so I didn't push them. That makes me kind of selfish, but I don't care. I asked if they wanted to play, they said no, end of discussion. LOL!

Sharing my summer fun this year!! So I started off summer a little early the last week in May with a trip to Charleston, South Carolina. Every year I do a week vacation with a group of women who are great friends but all live in different places. It always a fantastic vacation no matter where we meet because we’re together, but Charleston was amazing. One of my favorite trips!

Then I did a bunch of small long weekend trips. We went to my aunts cabin in Arnold, Ca on Lake Mont Pine with our cousins. It’s so relaxing and fun.

Did a quick girls trip to Las Vegas with my two daughters and our cousin! It was a BLAST.

Went to Grapevine Texas with my husband and one of my daughters for Book Bonanza! The hotel the book convention was out was amazing! We had the best time and I got to meet some of my favorite authors. Standout was Amy Harmon, Kim Holden and Ginger Scott!!

Now I’m leaving today for my last summer get away to my sister-in-laws cabin in Groveland, Ca right by Yosemite National Park. We’re going with my husband one of my daughters and her fiancé, my son, my sister and brother in-laws and my niece and nephew and their spouses! Can’t wait for some fun family time!

My daughter had 4 soccer tournaments, so we basically did that. I got to go to Powell's City of Books because on of those was in Portland. We are going to Cannon Beach, OR this weekend.

Karen Summer is peak busy time at my job and they black out the summer for vacation (horrible I know) but here are some of my highlights:

1. Went to D23 Expo - a Disney convention, saw the Star Wars trailer and other exclusive footage. Almost had a heart attack when I saw Kylo Ren and Rey battling it out. I was able to score a couple of days off. Did a bit of sightseeing in Los Angeles as well.

2. Binge watched The 100 S6 - I waited diligently since April for the whole season to air and it was an amazing, memorable experience to binge it. Best three days ever.

3. Hosted game nights and BBQs - had several game nights and BBQs with friends and family in the backyard we spend most of last summer fixing up

4. Redecorated living room - got inspired by having more friends and family over and redecorated the living room with natural tones for a cozier feel

5. Built and painted a chicken coop - Bought from Amazon in a box, built a chicken coop and then painted it. Finally fulfilled my dream of having a backyard with chickens.

6. Read - Read a lot, especially popular Young Adult books I've heard about and never thought I would read (I owe my thanks to my buddy read friend Kristy) including: Red Queen, Heartless, Uprooted, The Cruel Prince

Besides this I went to the movies, the pool, out to eat, tried new recipes, kept up with my Funko collection, attended a couple of birthdays and a bridal shower, it was an overall good time.

Mayra Biggs (mayrasissi) | 25 comments 1- I went to the Lake, it's a family tradition, every year same place, same time, same people. I love it! we get to play boardgames, read sitting by the lake and go hiking.

2- Went on a road trip to Seattle and the pacific northwest, it was fantastic camping along the way, and went on a ferry to camp in the peninsula. ( also stopped in Forks - twilight reference here- not a pretty town)

3- Read-I love to read but I've been so busy with school, my business and other stuff I hadn't done it as much as I liked. So I'm getting back to it .

4- finally finished unpacking from my last move, and hopefully the last one in 10 years .

That's so awesome! I live in Western WA and still haven't been to Forks. I know it's not a very pretty town, though.

Everyone has had such great summer experiences! Some of my highlights:

1. We spent a week being beach bums in the Rosemary Beach, FL/Panama City Beach, FL area. We took our 16 year old niece with us and had so much fun. It was awesome.

2. We took a LONG weekend to Chicago and did a bunch of touristy things with the kiddos. Sear (Willis) Tower, Lake Michigan, Shopping on Michigan Avenue, Chicago Style Pizza, Cloud Gate (AKA the Bean), The Field Museum, and a boat tour of the city on the Chicago River.
