Reading Dostoevsky, I can’t help but wonder how much heavier burden the Russian women, not to mention children, had to bear because of the weaknesses and vices of the men.

The Battle of the Sexes angle is not one which I have linked with this book until this book club. Once I've seen it, I cannot unsee it.
