Horror Novels with Authors as main Protagonist?

Dear horror and weird fiction readers, i am looking for a very special topic in horror literature. Inspired by some movies like "The Shining", "Misery" and especially "In the Mouth of Madness" i am looking for horror or weird fiction where an author is the main protagonist. Something like: people are discovering a reclusive writer somewhere and when they search for him (or her) discover mysterious secrets. So far i know the books by King with a fiction writer as main protagonist (the before mentioned "Shining", "Misery" and of course "Stark"), then there is a wonderful short story by Liz Hand called "Near Zennor" and at the moment i read a fine work called "The Land of Laughs" by Jonathan Carroll (Professor and his love interest hunt for a reclusice author of children's books).

Or, it could also be the other way round: A writer discovers horrible secrets from the past (like Ethan Hawke in "Sinister"), so far i know only one novel with such a setting, "Within these Walls" by Ania Ahlborn.

Would be so great to get other recommendations! Please excuse if my englsih seems to be not 100% correct, i am from Austria- but i love to read horror fiction in english!

Thanx a lot!
