☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments set the alternate cover edition https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
do you have the exact date when the cover was changed? then we could add that correct
(for setting the default cover you have to contact support, that can only be done by primary authors or support)

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments corrected the numbering of your Hunter Legacy series according to GR standards (novellas are listed with decimals, not as full work)

Timothy Ellis | 66 comments First, the HL series. It was correct the way it was. Now you have the majority of the series numbered differently from the books. Please put it back the way it was. Leave 5.5, but the next book is #7!!!

If you're going to have stupid policies like this, at least keep all the novels correctly numbered so you dont confuse people. No number 6 isn't a problem. 7 to 13 being numbered 6 to 12 is just ridiculous.

And btw, we got this right a long time ago. It didn't need changing for the upteenth time.

Re Snark's Quest, I am the primary author. Cover was changed about a week after launch. I didn't know I needed to know the date.

I see the book is now listed correctly, but the new cover hasn't been added yet.

Who or what is support and how do I contact them? Please dont assume people know what you are talking about. Link please.

"contact Support" = use the Contact Us link on the Help page

As far as series numbering, please see https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/4...

Timothy Ellis | 66 comments If the Librarians check Amazon, (and here) they will find Elspeth has no other books. It's her first novel. Thus I have to be the primary, which is also indicated on Amazon by my name being listed first. I'm also primary because its my existing series.

I'm not sure how you found the new cover. Can you link to it?

The whole numbering thing has been a pain in the proverbial from the moment I found out GR existed. 6 being a novella wasn't planned, it happened because I had health issues at the time. If one day I go back and put a front end on it, and make it a novel, the whole series will have to be renumbered again.

Personally as a reader, Book 12 on GR having book 13 on the cover means someone has stuffed up. Maybe its an author thing, but the author is the one who determines the numbering of a series, not faceless people on a reader site. I dont know where the rule came from or why, but all it does is create confusion. And it fosters the notion that 6-5.5 isn't worth reading, or can be ignored without affecting the rest of the series. Which isn't true.

I'm realistic enough to know its not worth bashing your head against the rule wall. But what annoys me is a librarian already had my series numbered correctly from previous interactions, and another one comes along and changes it all on a whim. And changes it back to the way it used to be.

The constant changes for no good reason, seems to indicate a lack of documentation about who changed what and why, and a gung-ho attitude among librarians, who differ in their interpretation of rules.

From the author stand point, having my original series messed around with every time I ask for a change to something else, is extremely frustrating, especially when it was already in the best possible format for the rules.

And the most annoying thing? I didn't ask for my first series to be messed with. The request was specific for one book. Anything else done was unwelcome.

And if I was the librarian whose work was just undone, I'd be pissed off about it.

Timothy Ellis | 66 comments Thanks for pointing out the reply as I didn't even see it.

Thanks for the book link too, but I cant find where to make it the primary version. Which probably means it hasn't been added to my list.

Timothy Ellis | 66 comments "Novellas and short stories should be listed using decimals. For instance, if a series contains five primary books (#1, #2, #3, #4, #5) and a novella was published in between Book 1 and Book 2, it should be listed as 1.5. "

This NOT the case here. The policy is talking about secondary books not being placed as primary ones. There is no mention of primary books being short.

Book 6 is a PRIMARY book in the series. It introduces a new character who plays a prime role to the end of the series. It just happens to be short, because at the time I was very sick. Anyone who doesn't read this book, wont understand where the character comes from.

The key word here is primary, not short. The policy obviously has holes in it. What happens when a primary book is short hasn't been spelled out, and this is why different librarians are interpreting it differently.

On the other hand, Jane's Christmas was a deliberate short story, and is therefore 7.5 in the series. And I dont have a problem with that.

The policy is incomplete. My book falls through the truck sized hole in the policy. Please fix the policy.

My series has 15 books, while being 13 books long. It contains 2 interlude books from different POV, 6 and 10. 6 just happens to be short, but it is a primary book. The series also has a short story and a companion book. The primary books are numbered, the other 2 are not.

From what I can tell, a staff member has made you primary author and set the new cover as the default.

For future reference, at the bottom of every page is a line of links, one of them 'help'. If you click that, you'll find a 'Contact' link in the column on the left.

With 'primary books', novel-length books are meant. Books shorter than the other books in the series are deemed secondary. The only exception is if all books in a series are novellas, then they are all considered primary.

This is Goodreads policy and nothing librarians can help with. Complaints can be taken to the Author Feedback Group: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... or to Support directly. If you want to challenge this particular case (the book being shorter because of your illness), I think Support is your best bet.

If a librarian makes edits contrary to Goodreads policy, they should expect their work to be corrected. Every librarian is expected to be aware of the rules.
