Oh yay... I've only just glanced at your shelf, Annie, and can tell that I'm going to have a hard time picking only one. I think I might even already have half of them waiting on my Kindle to be read ;)

message 26: by R (new)

R Z | 16 comments Hi, Lodie!

I actually had some trouble with your shelf, if only because I found three or four that I was interested in reading right then! I finally decided on Dating Sarah Cooper— it sounds cute. :D

I hope you like Stillhouse Lake— I really loved it.

Yayaya!! Do you have any recommendations? I was thinking about reading Lord of the Flies. I need something kinda short so that I have a better chance of finishing it with all my school work going on

message 31: by steph (new)

steph Hi Kiran,
I think I'll pick The Lightning Thief from your shelf.
I hope you find sth on mine.
Happy reading!
Steph

Lord of the Flies is great! I've been thinking of rereading it as well!
If you want something short, maybe A Monster Calls or Milk and Honey? I'm currently reading an adaptation of Agatha Christie's "The Unexpected Guest" and it's going pretty fast and I really like how comfy it is to read, so if you want, you can read that.

Any recommendations for me? Maybe a good love story or something that has been made into a movie?

message 33: by David (new)

David (codefiction) | 3 comments Hey Nadine,

Looks like we both don't have a ton of stuff on our shelves, which is fine. I'm new to the site and add a few each day.

I've got a few genres represented though, so hopefully you'll find something that catches your eye. If you delve into the philosophy shelf, it's rather dense and difficult reading--just a forewarning.

I chose Crank from yours. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like. Happy reading.

message 34: by Jadine (new)

Jadine | 18 comments Hey David,
Yeah sorry my selection isn't very wide since I just started school:/ but it will expand soon I hope. I have chosen to read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy from your selection because my science/physics professors have always recommended it to me. I'm honestly really looking forward to this read.

Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments Hi Jennifer,
I'm going to read Adulthood Is a Myth from your shelf. I'm sure it will be a good laugh! And I hope that you'll find something interesting from my shelf! Happy choosing!

That is a pretty funny, yet truthful book. I chose Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind from your shelf to read this month.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I would like to give this a try.

message 38: by David (new)

David (codefiction) | 3 comments So I finished Crank, my read with Jadine.

She gave it 5 stars, and I gave it 4. Excellent reading overall, and a very quick read (due to the poetic style).

It fell short of a 5 star from me as sometimes a passage really was just narrative, and the stanza-like form didn't add to the presentation or tone at all.

I felt those passages would have been stronger as straight prose and filled in with more details. It would have given the overall work a greater depth of contrast and made the passages that were clearly written as poem fragments more powerful.

message 39: by R (new)

R Z | 16 comments I finished Dating Sarah Cooper! I gave it 4 stars, the same rating as Lodie.

I thought it was super cute, and I said it in my review and I'll say it here: I wish there had been more of that type of wlw (just plain cute with a happy ending) when I was in JH/HS!

Hi, Amber sorry for the delayed response! Just had a glance at your shelf too, and wow you've read so many books! I don't even know where to start :) Do you have any recommendations to help narrow my search? Haha happy to hear that you like my selection, I've also seen quite a few books that I like on your list too.

Do you have any particular sorts of books/subjects/genres you're interested in reading right now? Sorry it's a little overwhelming... they overwhelm me too lol (And these are just the fraction I've managed to recall - and freshly read - since joining Goodreads in January... though I suppose that automatically makes them some of my favorites, since they aren't among the forgotten!)

Not really picky, as long as it's not a crime/thriller as I can never seem to get into them...

No worries there, I don't read those either, for the most part. I'll look back at what I've read so far this year, just to narrow it down a little, and make a list of my favs ;)

Mion! I took your recommendation and just ordered Milk & Honey! I've been wanting that book for so long so I splurged and bought it to keep!

Hmmmm love stories... I really liked It Ends with Us By Colleen Hoover, The Handmaid's Tale isn't a movie but it's now being adapted for TV! Me Before You is both a love story and a movie- I loved that one! Let me know what you choose!

Ender's Game: ...if you want to take on a series, because you can't read just one - and as great as this one is, the third (Xenocide) is the best of the whole bunch!

Black Rabbit Hall, The Thirteenth Tale: These are both rather dark, but dense with really... genuine character development/subtleties. And suspenseful, but not in the chaotic action sense. (I just finished the second one, it had me quite hooked!)

A Man Called Ove/My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry: This is all I've read by this author, and only recently, but he's probably one of my favorites now. Quirky but real. (A great variety of tears were shed).

The Scorpio Races: This one is more of an "action" story, but still well developed and engaging.

The Yellow Wallpaper: A Trilogy: This is one of many compilations of her work (not really a trilogy), all good, but I think Herland intrigued me the most. Definitely entertaining, but written to address the social issues surrounding women. It was written way back, but still utterly relevant.

Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates... or just about anything else by this author: Weird. Humorous. Thought-provoking. Potentially offensive in ingenious fashion. (These aren't from this year, I just love his stuff enough to include him anyway).

There's my attempt at variety. I could list a few hundred more, if needed lol

I'll probably read The Night Circus from your shelf, Annie. It's one I keep meaning to read, but never quite get around to.

Either that, or Red Rising - I just have so many as-yet-unfinished series going right now, I shouldn't add another!

Dinesh Srikakulapu | 3 comments Hi Elizabeth,

I have decided to read 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' , this is the one I have been longing to read from an year or so. I hope you will find at least a book from my shelf that suits your taste.

message 49: by Zoe (new)

Zoe (zo-ereader) | 490 comments Mion, I've just finished Milk & Honey. I got it in the mail and read it in one go as that seemed to make most sense to me- I'll definitely be revisiting particular parts of it as some of the poems really stuck with me. I gave it 4 stars, which is the same rating you gave as well!

Have you decided what you're going to read from my shelf yet?

message 50: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 4 comments Hi Dinesh, I have decided to read The Importance of Being Earnest. I've always wanted to read this but never got around to it. Now I have the perfect reason to do so! Hope you enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird.
