Joel Li | 7 comments I am a guy that loved Battlestar Galactica 2003 TV show. And what I loved most of all is Athena's and Helo's internally stable and strong, externally turbulently and traumatic romantic relationship.

I am also an avid book reader and would like to explore more such Space Opera relationships.

Any books and/or series that anyone can recommend that supports strong leads that romance build them up instead of is by the way?

I love Space Military Books, Fantasy and Stable Romance, which make my reading list very weird.

Love Ilona Andrews, David Weber, Jay Allan, Christopher Nuttell, Rachel Aaron, Evan Currie, Seanan McGuire, Simon R. Green, John Ringo, David Drake, Timothy Zahn, Eric Flint, Lois McMaster Bujold, Elizabeth Moon, Jim Butcher, etc. Too many to count.

But actually coming to mind, Ilon Andrews does romance and action well, and not so the rest.

Also I strongly Dislike George Martin Game of Throne series as the antithesis of stable relationships and plot. Aka I dislike backstabing and politics in my books alot.

Buzz H. | 34 comments Joel do you ever read fanfiction? I am sure that there is probably a lot written about Athena and Helo.

Just checked--yep!

This may or may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it came to mind.

Snarktastic Sonja (snownsew) | 2 comments Have you tried the Mageworld series beginning with The Price of the Stars

or the Liaden series which . . um . . . is so random as to start order. . . . Agent of Change is a good place to start.

Checked out the above. Some stories are really good.

Also will read Price of the Stars when I finish my current book :P.

Thanks Buzz and Snarktastic.

Tom Julian You might enjoy my book Timberwolf. There’s a slow burn between the two leads that burns brighter as the story goes on. My publisher just went out of business, so I am happy to offer you a complimentary copy. I own the rights now, so I’m OK with letting good people read it while I find it a new home.

I describe the story as “Aliens + Apocalypse Now” so I think it has your military sci-fi boxes checked.

I can offer it in .epub and .mobi

My pleasure to help you out! Share what you find. I so totally concur with the above quote! The thing with GRRM is he does what he does so WELL. So, everyone is on THAT bandwagon thinking that is what people want. And, it isn't that we want THAT, it is that we want quality.

I see you've found Lt. Leary. In the same vein, you might also try Robert Lynn Asprin's Phule series.

I really like the Lt Leary series too. Adele is, I think, way more scary then the Cylons :D

Dan | 89 comments Game of Thrones is actually modeled after real life conflict -- the War of the Roses.

The sad fact is back stabbing and politics are the norm in real life, and I think that ruthlessness is indeed part of the allure of GoT for many fans.

Joel Li | 7 comments To anyone that reads this :) Just a shout out.

As mentioned above Mr Tom passed me his book to read. It is quite like Battlestar Galatica found it very interesting enough that would like to recommend it to those that are interested in Space Adventures that are action and character driven. It is written like a movie and is quite fast pace.
