Just to let you know that we have decided on the first country (UK, because that's where we started) and also a theme (Classics, as we are celebrating Classics on 2nd September). There will be 5 choices and I will post them here for people to vote! :)

message 18: by Shona (new)

Shona (shonzmi) | 3 comments Oh that was such a hard choice to make. I was torn between Lord of the Flies and Tess of D'Urbivilles cause both were amazing. Lord of the Flies won for me though - that book was such a screw of my mind when I read it at school.

Allisha (leeshee) | 40 comments LORD OF THE FLIES!! LORD OF THE FLIES!! I just happened to finish this book yesterday, and I would love to talk about this book, and hear all your thoughts and feelings about it too. There are too many emotions and thoughts about this book that my husband literally could not take it anymore and demanded that I "go drink some Brut and go find a book club!" This was meant to be! LORD OF THE FLIES!

Bardbooks Mrs. Dalloway
Apparently, I misread the voting deadline ... but the poll was still up, so I voted.

message 27: by Cortney (new)

Cortney Ok, so I have some information on the "full edition"!

The Oxford's Worlds Classics does offer the full edition.
Apparently, Anne's sisters refused to have the book published as a second edition without removing some of the context. (They were not happy with some of the context of Anne's writing. As this was Anne's 2nd and last novel before she passed she did not have control over the edits made.)

Now that being said, in the edition that is readily available at libraries and on the internet is the edited/shortened edition. Edits were made to be beginning and some of the chapters. I believe either Chapter 26 or 28 was removed and some of the writing was edit/adjusted/reorganized before the 2nd edition was printed.

Below is a link off of the wikipedia site that allows access to the first edition if anyone is interested. There are several different copies, however the link below is for copies that are scanned in.
