It is a German book form Andreas Brandhorst that apparently has not been translated into English. No wonder i could not find it anywhere online while using English search terms. The title is "Kinder der Ewigkeit" which means "children of Eternity".
So happy that I have found it.
All i can remember is that it starts out with the main male character that used to assassin people for either money or points in a system. If he has collected enough points he could reach the stage of immortality and get the last injection needed (I think 3 were needed).
The main character was close to reaching this point (had two injections) and did not want to risk it and therefore did not want to take on another assassination job. For whatever reason he was forced to do it one last time. The target person was an immortal member of a council. This was an almost impossible task.
The other thing that was going on that data or energy was missing when it traveled through some sort of tunnel. It was assumed that someone was stealing it to take over the council (as far as i remember).
At some point the main character visits the most intelligent and very old being, like a big brain in a container full of liquids and asks him about where it thinks the missing energy or data is going. It takes the intelligent being a very long time to answer but i believe it answered just in time.
I also remember some sort of device that had an internal loop inside and people could get trapped in it.
Any ideas?
