Thanks Casceil - not sure I'll find time to reread this one but I hope to contribute to the discussion.

Tell us about your first impressions of the book..."I read the book in September 2016 and posted my review on goodreads. I enjoyed the book but probably won't have time to reread it. But I will try to join the discussion even though it's been nearly a year since I read it. Thanks.

I remember enjoying this book more than I was expecting to. I have now read four of Enright's novels and a book of short stories and this was possibly the best of them, though for me it doesn't really come together until near the end.
I didn't like her Booker winning The Gathering at all (but I do want to reread it) but I thought the Green Road was pretty good. I enjoy reading family sagas so it's a good addition to the genre.

I was 'vice versa'... The second time I read The Gathering I really 'got it'... Might have to do the same with the Green Road, as that didn't seem as good.
I've only read about a chapter and a half so far but I absolutely love the prose. Not much to add at the moment but I'm looking forward to reading on and see what the group thinks.
I'm about 3 chapters in... First chapter didn't really grab me, but the subsequent ones have pulled me in a bit more. This is my first time reading Enright.
I read this last December and loved it. I will try to contribute to the conversation as best I can. I probably won't have a chance to reread.

Here is a list of some reviews of the book. Remember that reviews often contain spoilers.

I will be putting up more threads later. I'm still deciding about how to organize. Recently this group has gone to fewer threads, often just one for people who haven't read the book and another for people who have. I like having threads broken down by section, to make it easier to discuss early or middle sections without seeing spoilers for events later in the book. Usually this means I wind up with too many threads, and some of them never get more than one or two comments. This book breaks neatly into two sections: leaving, and coming home. I think I will have a thread for each of those sections, plus one for spoilers/whole book. If anyone has a better idea, let me know.
