Exit West starts out with a young couple named Saeed and Nadia. They are in a war torn country and make a plan to escape. They travel through a door that takes them away to an unknown place and continue to move on this way. Other refugees find these passages also and on the other side often face resistance; but as other countries see things need to be done for them, people start to work together to help.

This story is not meant to address the exact situation of refugees today. The book still has war, fear and the search for a better life; but the doors make it different.

The author, Mohsin Hamid, does a good job of describing what Nadia and Saeed are feeling and how they both are affected by their circumstances. I enjoyed this beautifully written story.

Glad you liked this one as much as I did. It has made the long list for the Man Booker Prize, and personally, I think it has a strong shot at winning . . .
