The SHS book club may work with the SHS Haitian Club in reading this book! Let me know if you are interested and I can try to get a count of how many books we would need from the Ferguson!
The Ferguson Library recently received a "Big Read" grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to host a "one community read" with lots of supporting programs and book discussions. We are planning on devoting much of our November programming to "The Big Read." From the NEA's approved list we selected the novel Brother, I'm Dying by the Haitian author Edwidge Danticat. Most of the programs will center on this book, the immigration experience, and the culture of Haiti.
As a special kick-off Danticat herself will be at the Ferguson to conduct a program on Sunday October 1st - very exciting.
We are hoping that Stamford High might be interested in participating in "The Big Read."
