Barb Petr | 2 comments Hello--I am Barb from Baltimore....I am a high school English teacher and was perusing Goodreads for a new group to join and I was very excited to see that you are currently reading "The Alchemist" which I discovered a few years back and have my senior class read towards the end of their school year to help them focus on their life goals!

I have joined the group and would like to know what your January read is---I've looked all over the site and can't find it. Thanks for your help on this!

message 406: by Zunaira (new)

Zunaira Elahi | 1 comments Hi! I'm Zunaira from Rawalpindi, Pakistan. I don't have any particular preferences when it comes to reading. Mostly it depends on my mood. I'm in the middle of reading the following books:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Powerful Lessons in Personal Change by Stephen R. Covey Islam A Short History by Karen Armstrong Letters from a Stoic (a selection) by Seneca Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon .
I guess my current reading list pretty much shows that I'm not very particular about genres :)

message 407: by Jodie (new)

Jodie | 2 comments Hello everyone. I am Jodie. I live in a small town in the US. I am a scientist by day, ballerina by night. And in between I try to find time to read. Although I too am a terribly slow reader (I see there has been some discussion of that recently, and I feel ya). I wanted to join a book club to try to encourage myself to read more, and as for kinds of books I will read just about anything although I am not a big fan of horror--books or movies.

message 408: by Jacquelyn (new)

Jacquelyn Lejeune | 3 comments Hi, I am Jacquelyn, from Gonzales, Louisiana, USA. I have a daughter and a son, both in their 20's. I am an early childhood special education teacher. Sandra Hofmann (zebrainviolett) Hello! I just joined this group! My name is Sandra, 32 years old, lawyer from Germany. I used to be an avid reader in the past, but read noticeably less books for fun during the last phase of my law education. That is something I'd like to change now, and I thought a book club would be a fun way to do so!

Yoon (shadoweater9) | 3 comments Howdy fellow bookworms! I'm Yoon Jin, and like most of you on here, I'm a ride-or-die fan of something called books. And if you're like me, just the word is music to your ears :D

I live in the U.S., and I'm a sucker for all books as dark as my soul, including the Six of Crows duology. I joined Goodreads in the hope of meeting people who share my taste and interest in books. Thus far, I'm not disappointed :)))

message 416: by Helen (new)

Helen (hemoore) My name is Helen, like Helen Keller, or your third aunt, or your grandma. or something. I love books and I have recently taken up a few challenges to force myself to find time to read again. I love mysteries, the paranormal, mental health, fantasy, and pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I am a college student who works 25 hours every week so it’s hard for me to read when I get so busy. I decided to keep the Netflix at bay and actually flex my mind a little and I’m hoping this helps me!

message 423: by Mark (new)

Mark Tierno (mark_tierno) | 3 comments Hey there, my name is Mark Anthony Tierno and I'm from the good old state of California in the U.S.A.. I have a MS in Physics and as for what I'm reading... it's more like what I'm writing, because you see that's what I do. besides the ghostwriting to keep the electricity turned on, I have a slew of my own novels, a couple of which are available (more in the way of self-publishing, though I did have an unfortunate experience with the defunct Publish America). I write what I love to read, which is to say Fantasy and Sc-Fi. though in my case I love to mix the two together a bit. So "Maldene", for example, is fantasy at the start but will wind up with liberal amounts of SF thrown in. I also have some futuristic detective noir stuff mixed with anthropomorphic in the form of my Inspector Flaatphut series (those are the stories that i write to have fund between the big stuff- sort of like my idea of taking a vacation). I also have a series that's more with the cyberpunk-is with fantasy, a touch of horror, and Biblical-level conspiracies- that's my "Cyberdawn" series but I have nothing in that released yet. If you want to read a sample, or see more, then h it up my profile or www.maldene.com

message 424: by Carissa (last edited Jan 03, 2018 01:26PM) (new)

Carissa (caedra92) Hello and Happy New Year! I'm a mother of three girls and many pets (furry, fins and scales!) from Australia and I'll be honest, I haven't read a lot the last few years. I'm hoping to dedicate more time to reading this year! My book shelf, cupboard and draws are overflowing with books I haven't read yet so I'm setting myself the challenge of not buying any new books, reading what I own and even letting some go so others can enjoy them :)

I'm looking forward to read with you all!

message 434: by Bookworm (new)

Bookworm with a Witchface (dianablackmoon) Hi! I'm Klaudia from Poland, but I currently live in Denmark.

I love the surprise in books, hidden philosophy in all genres. No wonder my favourite author is Joanne Harris. I was raised with Agatha Christie novels in my hand so good mystery is also something always worth reading for me. Another prised are James Oliver Curwood with his amazing narration about animals and Terry Pratchett with his adult humour in the silly world. Holly Black, Leonie Swann and world of Earthsea? Gods I love them all :D

message 435: by Dakota (new)

Dakota | 1 comments Hello :)
My name is Dakota, I'm Australian but I live in Paris. Every book is an adventure- I'm terrible at goodbyes and I miss fictional characters almost as much as real people!
I love historical fiction, romance and fantasy.
Nice to meet you all!

message 436: by Emilie (new)

Emilie | 1 comments Hi! The name's Ellie and I'm from Canada. I'm a fantasy reader with a pronounced fondness for satires, irony and all sorts of witty humor, especially if said wit highlights human flaws and inconsistencies. Which of course makes me a huge fan of Terry Pratchett and Diana Wynne Jones, among others. And Agatha Christie. Don't ask me why, I just love old-school Hercule Poirot detective stories. I guess I'm just into English litterature, really.

I'm currently working on a book project which happens to be an original satire/feminist fairytale story - I know there are plenty of those around already, but to my mind one more can't hurt, right? Anyway, it's coming along slowly, but I got more than 25,000 words down so far and the whole plotline settled, so I know I'll get there eventually!

I'm glad I found this club and I'm looking forward to interacting with you guys :3

message 440: by Kara (last edited Jan 06, 2018 12:21PM) (new)

Kara Hello! My name is Kara and I'm from Canada. I enjoy reading political and historical non-fiction/philosophy, as well as fantasy, romance, science fiction, thriller, legal dramas and some of the classics. I'm willing to give any novel a shot.

I have just started to get back into reading recently after a long five year break from reading novels on a regular basis. Mandatory dull textbook readings killed my love for reading, but it's starting to come back. Long may this passion for reading stay!

message 443: by Fzsjay (new)

Fzsjay | 1 comments Hi! I am Nina and I loved reading since I picked up the first Harry Potter book. I think that says a lot about what kind of books I like.
Fantasy is my altime favourite but I've beeen experiencing with some other genres over the years. So far I enjoyed every one of them!
I generally try to stay away from books with love triangles but even if there is one in an otherwise promising book, I will still read it, and even like it, if the stroy is great, and it is well written, with a few epic characters if possible.

message 444: by Natalie (new)

Sophia Exintaris (eurydice13) | 1 comments Hello,
I am Sophia and I read a mix of fiction and non-fiction on a ratio of about 2 to 1. Last year I managed to read 62 books 🙀 and I am still wondering HOW...
Love reading and have been escaping into mystery and fantasy books since I could decipher the letters on my own without adult help. I am quadrilingual, and find it very difficult to find non-english books. Any tips for sourcing italian, french or greek e-books would be appreciated!!
I live in London, and mostly read during my commute on my kindle.
Lovely to meet everyone. Look forward to discovering new books with you! Book fairies rock!
