message 253: by Judith (new)

Judith Huang (judithhuang) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Judith and I'm from Singapore, though I have also lived in the US, Australia and China. I'm a writer and I recently finished writing my first novel and have a poetry collection coming out!

I first learned about book fairies because I found a book hidden by one in my favourite coffee shop in Singapore, Carpenter and Cook, and I loved the idea! I am considering becoming a book fairy myself.

I love reading local Singaporean literature, especially poetry by Alfian Saat, Christine Chia and Cyril Wong but have started reading novels by Singaporeans too lately, like Balli Kaur Jaswal and Daryl Yam and as an English lit major at Harvard I devoured all kinds of classics from the Western canon! I have a particular soft spot for epic poetry like Paradise Lost and Ovid. I also love magic realist novels like Rushdie's and Marquez's, and dystopian science fiction, like Atwood's, Orwell's and Philip K Dick. I've been trying to write science fiction so I read a lot of short stories in the genre after joining a scifi reading group in Beijing when I was living there. Sometimes I'm just in the mood for an Agatha Christie mystery too, and I love my Harry Potter.

Loverly Reads (loverlyreads) | 3 comments Hello, I'm Traci from the US :D I typically read anything that sounds interesting to me but my absolute favourite genre is historical fiction/romance

message 255: by Rechelle (new)

Rechelle (hedgiechelle) | 1 comments Hi Friends!

I'm Rechelle from Metro Detroit, MI, USA! I'm a wife, rescue beagle mom of 2, reader, baker, crafter, and more. I work as an Industrial Engineer and work hard to prove to girls, ladies, and women everywhere that we can do it too!

I enjoy reading mostly chick lit, romance, and YA! I like suspense and thriller novels as well but they tend to scare me a bit and I really don't do scary. I love a good memoir/self-help book too as I believe in always working towards a better self, wife, mom, friend, etc. I especially like a good book that makes me cry and truly FEEL my emotions ;) I get most of my books from my favorite place. the library, I think I'd like to work there when I retire someday hehe.

Hello hello everyone!

I'm Steph from Luxembourg, and I never leave the house without a book!!

My go-to genre is and always has been fantasy, though I went through the fairly typical horse phase when I was young. (I devoured Walter Farley's Black Stallion series.) I like a good crime novel from time to time and pick up a historical fiction every now and then as well. Chick Lit and YA have moved back down my list of preferred reads after reading a little too many of those a while ago. I also find pleasure in reading a good dystopia.

Ok, in short: I read whatever sounds interesting. Though I tend not to touch nonfiction.

Looking forward to diving into this group :-)

message 258: by Kristin B. (new)

message 262: by [deleted user] (last edited Oct 17, 2017 03:03PM) (new)

Hey everyone,

I'm Becky and I'm from Charlotte, North Carolina. I graduated college with a bachelors in political science and now I'm just trying to figure out my place in the world. I have two dogs that are a handful but in my spare time I love to read. I like to read anything that interests me but I read fantasy the most.

message 263: by Ravish (new)

Ravish T. Ram (ravishtram) | 3 comments Hi Everyone,
I'm Ravish, I'm from India. I'm an author of 'the fictitious dream'. I love to read & write motivational quotes. To me everyone needs motivation in their lives for different reasons. I love to read fantasy novels and spiritual books.

message 264: by Dawna (new)

Dawna (mowgligalicia) | 1 comments Hello!! I'm Dawna from San Diego, CA. I actually read A LOT more than Goodreads claims I do, haha, simply because I haven't kept it up to day. I love a good book and a sunny beach day or hammock. I am partial to historical fiction, but I do love a good mystery and classic literature. Biographies fascinate me as well. I absolutely love Fantasy and I feel like J.K. Rowling really set the bar high since reading those years ago.

I'm interested in trying to foster reading in my 10 year old (he doesn't like to read, the horror!!) as well as maintaining a running list for my bookworm 8 year old.

message 265: by Emelie (last edited Oct 19, 2017 10:38PM) (new)

Emelie Olsson (em1alo) | 1 comments Hey!
I’m Emelie. A 14 years old girl from Sweden. (So my first language is Swedish, just so you know)
I love to read. Mostly I read famous fiction books and series. It’s been much fantasy lately.
For example I love the selection, the mortal instruments, Harry Potter, the maze runner. I also love books that’s not fantasy like books of Meg Cabot and Sarah Dessen.
I’ve also read some biographies like “Forget you have a daughter” of Sandra Gregory or “Not without my daughter” of Betty Mahmoody (I think that’s her name)
Next year I’m planning on reading lots of classic books.

message 268: by Andrea Rufo (Ann) (new)

Andrea Rufo (Ann) | 1 comments Hello everyone. I'm Ann, I live in Wisconsin, specifically in Racine, a small city right on Lake Michigan. I love to read pretty much anything, though I admit I sometimes struggle with science fiction. I love a fascinating non-fiction as much as a beautifully crafted fictional novel. When sad I like to read cozy mysteries. When ambitious, I like to go back and read the classics I should have read in school but didn't. I have a total weakness for Sherlock Holmes and Victorian era Mysteries. But above all I love books about loving books - Jasper FForde's Thursday Next series; Carlos Ruiz Zafon's Cemetery of Books series, etc

Nikki (Saturday Nite Reader) (nikki1211) Hello! I am Nicole from NJ. I always enjoyed reading, but recently have been on a reading binge and aim to read a book every 3 days...for all my kindle users - 33% down per day gets you to 3 days ;)

I enjoy Jodi Picoult books, and recently joined a book club to expand my reading horizons. I love seeing everyone's currently reading bookshelves and reviews. I have read a few books based on the reviews I have seen, and have yet to be disappointed.

Nice meeting all of you!

message 285: by Robin P (new)

Robin P Hi, I am Robin from Wisconsin. I'm impressed with how international the membership of this group is. I enjoy many genres - literary fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, mysteries, sci-fi, romance, some nonfiction. About half my books are by audio, while driving, doing housework, etc.

message 288: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte (timetoremember) Hello! I'm Charlotte, and I live in the UK, in the blustery, often damp north. I like both fiction and non-fiction - I split my reading between fiction books and non-fiction articles on almost anything! My favourite genres are sci-fi and fantasy, but anything weird and/or wonderful is usually my thing, and I have a long-standing fondness for the classics.

message 289: by A Literary Lady (new)

A Literary Lady Hello Cordelia! My name is Cornelia and I live in Ohio (USA). I am an Adjunct Professor and enjoy a number of reading genres. My main reads are Adult and YA Fiction, History (all types), and Sci-Fi. This is my first reading group so I am excited to read and discuss all sorts of books. Did I mention I am an unashamed bibliophile!

message 290: by Andi (new)

Andi | 1 comments Hi, I'm Andi, from Colorado. I read a lot of stuff from the classics to sci-fi/fantasy, historical fiction, non-fiction. I used to say that I would read anything I could get my hands on, but then I majored in English and learned how to analyze literature! (I'm a little more selective now) I've been reading a lot of Margaret Atwood and Neil Gaiman lately, and recently resolved to read books that frequently show up on banned books lists.

message 291: by ishaan (last edited Nov 08, 2017 09:20PM) (new)

ishaan (ishaan119) | 1 comments Hi,
I am new to the group. I love reading books.
Being an avid book lover myself I was surprised to see that 95% of the books I had read were from authors originating from US and UK. Also on further analysis I realized 80% of the authors were Male. To me this was a recipe for disaster. I firmly believe that the books you read help shape your opinions.Something was clearly wrong when all the knowledge I was gaining was coming from an extremely small set of literature. Given the rich culture and literature available all over the world this really surprised me that why was I not venturing out and reading more different types of books. One problem is that the current sites like Amazon etc only gives recommendations based on things you have read before always keeping you inside a bubble.
I am from India.

message 292: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 2 comments Hello! My name is Caroline, I'm from Virginia (in the US). I grew up just outside Washington, D.C. My parents used to work for the Library of Congress (they've retired), so my love of books and reading is probably genetic. I go back and forth between periods reading fiction and periods of non-fiction. I like book clubs because no matter what genre I'm reading in the 'real world' the book club book is sure to be different.

message 293: by Serendipity Marie (new)
