message 87: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1 comments Hi, I'm Lauren and I live in Dallas, Texas, United States. My favorite books are sci-fi and fantasy novels, as well as thrillers and some horror. When I was a kid, I was known to take the required summer reading lists from my friends and read their books, too.

Neil Gaiman, Margaret Atwood, Peter Clines, Ernest Cline, and Orson Scott Card are a few all-time favorites, but I also love something fun from Charlaine Harris or Stephen King. My favorite book ever is William Goldman's The Princess Bride, because it has everything! I also enjoy some non-fiction, mostly in the form of comedic memoirs (love Tina Fey's Bossypants) or industry books (I work in Digital Marketing) like Dan Lyons' Disrupted. I have a long commute to work every day, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks, which helps me read twice as much!

I'm so happy to be here with you all!

Sunshine | 3 comments Hey everyone, I'm Skye. I'm delighted to be in such good company! I spent my childhood in New England and so far have spent my adulthood in Northern and Central Virginia (USA). I have a degree in English, was once an editor, and am now a reading/writing tutor. I'd like to work in a library or bookstore someday. I have four kids. Teaching the two oldest to read was one of the most marvelous experiences of my life. My favorite reading genres are historical fiction, nonfiction, dystopian, and classic literature. In 2017, my goal has been to read books by and about women and to finish all of the Jane Austen novels I hadn't yet read. I'm currently on 5/6--Mansfield Park--and looking forward to finishing up with Northanger Abbey. Two of my favorite reads this year were nonfiction books by and about extraordinary women: Hidden Figures and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Some of my all-time favorites are The Handmaid's Tale, Brave New World, The Invention of Wings, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Pride and Prejudice, and The Hiding Place. Happy reading!
