I remember reading this but I think I didn't finish and now i wanna find it again.
It's basically about a girl with a guy's name who gets paired up with a boy from another town to send letters to each other as a school project(it was meant to be between two boys or two girls that's why the name matter is important) when they're in like 5th grade maybe? And so the project was supposed to be just that, but they keep writing to each other, agreeing to never look the other up in the internet, until the guy for some unknown reason stops responding. I remember he had a band and once they had a fundraiser to go on tour and the girl attended(this happens after they disconnected and are teenagers, i think seniors).
