I agree. Lydia is too "flirty" for a Virgo. Usually, a Virgo is pretty conservative, quiet, and shy. Gemini is good as they are extremely chatty and open-minded. As for the rest..

Darcy- Cancer or Capricorn

On the outside, he has a tough shell, but once you dig deeper, he has quite the emotional side and is attentive and thoughtful for those he loves/cares about.

Elizabeth- Taurus

(So stubborn. Taureans, both male and female, more often than not value loyalty, stability, comfort, patience, nurturing, love, beauty and intelligence)

Jane Bennett- Virgo

She always puts others before herself. She's shy, selfless, and tends to push themselves to please others. She also overthinks everything. I'm a Virgo as well.

Wickham- Aries or Scorpio

Lady Catherine- Scorpio

Charlotte- Pisces or Cancer

Collins- Aquarius

Bingley-Libra

Charming, Nice, Conversationalist, Caring

Beth-In-UK | 1195 comments Gosh, really detailed.

Totally agree Lydia couldn't possibly be a Virgo - the most un-Virgolike personality imaginable!

I think Jane Bennet could be a Virgo though. And poor Mary too - earnest, tries hard, wants to improve her mind, however tendentiously, highly critical of her own looks and knows she is plain and unattractive. In fact, the more I think about poor Mary, the more Virgo I think her.

I think Lizzie is Saggitarius (as was Austen herself, and I'm sure Austen put herself hugely into Lizzie). Sags can be tactless, and Lizzie was certainly that in her 'prejudice'.

I think Darcy could, yes, be Capricorn or Cancer, but also I see him as Scorpio - dark and brooding, secretive and powerful!

I don't see Lady C as Scorpio at all, though not sure what she is. Possibly Taurus in that she has an iron will to force herself forward. Or possibly Capricorn, knows what she wants and is determined to get it?

I think Wickham is more fickle Gemini??

Yes, Bingley as Libra - suits well.

Charlotte could be Pisces, devious in their 'malign' side. Untrustworthy.

But all this probably reveals my limitations on Zodiac characteristics. Like many, I know the ones 'in my own family and acquaintenace' but not so much any signs that don't crop up in that. (It's an interesting, but an aside, observation that the same signs seem to 'run in families'. We have no Aries in mine, either direct or inlaws. It's quite noticeable I think.)

Jane, yes, Mary, I'm not so sure. She's described as "Mary had neither genius nor taste; and though vanity had given her application, it had given her likewise a pedantic air and conceited manner, which would have injured a higher degree of excellence than she had reached." As far as I know, Virgos are humble, not conceited and she's extremely pretentious. I would say she's a Scorpio. Sure, she has some Virgoan traits. However, her other characteristics dominate those.

Oh and I meant Caroline Bingley, for Scorpio. I do see Lady Catherine as Pisces, although she could be Virgo as well. She has high standards (criticizes her daughter in front of them), very eloquent, majestic, appreciates being in control of the situation, and can get bitter if she doesn't have it her way.

Charlotte could be Pisces too, but she could also be Cancer.

Thanks Beth-in-UK; I am a fishy type and was always told I was a dreamer and far too sensitive. I don't think Charlotte would be classed as that as she's too calm, calculating and indifferent to love and romance. I DEFINITELY need love and romance but only in the dreamy sort of way. Pisces are good, really.

Beth-In-UK | 1195 comments Ah, but every sign has its dark side......!!!!

Pisceans can be untrustworthy, manipulative, unreliable, fantasists etc.

Virgos hyper-critical and nit-picking.

Of course, the added complication with assigning astro-signs to Austen's characters is that we at first see their 'outward' presentation, which would involve their rising sign, which can be quite at odds with their 'true' sun sign.

Mr Elliot in Persuasion, Wickham in P and P, and Willoughby are perhaps good examples of characters we see 'outwardly', probably ion the light of their ascendent/rising sign, and it takes a good while before we see their 'true' (malign aspect) sun sign.

Darcy probably works the other way round - we see a more 'malign' aspect ascendent (pride etc), but then we discover his true (benign aspect) sun sign.

But just what all those are is way beyond me!

Anyone got a feel for what Mrs Bennet is? I sort of think Gemini??

Beth-In-UK | 1195 comments In that she was very 'girly' as female Pisces can be (like Elizabeth Taylor!!!).

She's not dreamy all though, is she? Pretty hard nosed in fact, trying to save her daughters from future poverty.

Ehh.. Mrs. Bennett would be Leo.. She's always so dramatic and has no problem embarrassing everyone around her, specifically her daughters. In addition, she loves the spotlight on her and can be incredibly selfish, as shown when she practically forces Elizabeth to marry Collins, though thankfully she does not.

A Leo*

Juan Manuel Pérez Porrúa Pérez (jm15xy) | 54 comments I've seen Fanny Price classifed as Cancer, Elinor Dashwood, Mr. Knightley and Anne Elliot as Capricorn and Jane Bennet and Anne Elliot as Virgo.

Beth-In-UK | 1195 comments Not a big fan of Leo's then, Amethyst!! ?? :)

I definitely think Anne Elliot could be a Virgo.

Beth-In-UK | 1195 comments Er, I wonder what your sign is, David????????????? :) :)

Emma would be good as Aries I think - plunging in, but not thinking through the consequences beforehand. Impulsive and energetic.

Yes, Fanny as 'stubborn Taurus', knowing her ground and sticking to it.

Mary Crawford could be a 'life-of-the-party', and very sexually attractive Sag, but the faults of tactlessness and foot-in-mouth as she was with that suggestion about better Tom had died so Edmund could become baronet etc. I think it's perhaps noticeable that Austen herself was a Sag, and I think a lot of herself went into Mary C and Lizzie B.

Frank Churchil as a Capricorn treading over others to get what he wants, including making a fool of Emma, and humiliating Jane.

I wasn't sure about seeing Elinor as a Scorpio, but she is secretive, and holds things inside her, and has 'inner power'.

Willoughby with the communicative gift of the gab of Gemini, yes, can see that. Plus as an air sign not being very 'involved' with other human beings, as in, being irresponsible about them?
