Query abandoned by poster > ABANDONED. Fantasy/Sci-Fi - Minor Character has a unique Knife (named Stele?..Strele?) that is from old world magic, extremely sharp. Maybe a Terry Brooks Book? Maybe in the "Shannara" series?

Mister Reads | 1 comments Genre: Fantasy. This book has Magic with a flavor of "Old Magic" (tech). I think it was Post-Apocalyptic future that turned into a world of Swords & Sorcery.

Minor Character/Possible Antagonist: He was a mercenary/assassin. I think he was hired or tasked with killing the protagonist. Seemed like he was a bit crazy. He had a unique knife.

The Knife: The character carried a knife that had a name. Stele, Strele, Steele? I'm not sure, but I thought it was indicative of the word "Steel". And that's because the knife was a relic of the Old World. It was extremely deadly and sharp. I think I recall that the knife would teleport to the hand of the user.

Plot: I don't remember much of the plot. The Minor Character travels with the Protagonist at some point. I recall them fighting a monster. And although he has the option to kill the protagonist, I think he decided to help him and sacrifice himself.

The Author: I thought this was a book by Terry Brooks and part of his "Shannara" series. But I could be wrong. The book would probably have been written in the late 80's/early 90's.

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 215 comments Could this be part of the Wheel of Time series? I think I remember the character Mat finding/stealing a dagger (cursed?) in an abandoned cursed city.
Sorry for being so vague, but it's been some time since I read it...

Laura | 11 comments I think the book you are remembering might be The Druid of Shannara. There is an assassin named Pe Ell with a knife named the Stiehl. He's sent to kill a girl named Quickening, but he ends up traveling with one or more of the main characters. It's been ages since I've read these books, I'm working off of this wikipedia article and my copy of the book.
