I'm fine with banning Finn if he's the one that flagged you. Totally agree that's strike two.
Niki in your cleaning frenzy you haven't been deleting folders as well have you?
I ask because I had to recreate a KingKiller Chronicles folder and I know 100% there was one before. If it was you, you don't have to do that. If there's no topics in a folder it becomes invisible on the main board. It could also just be the GR GUI doing it's usual sucky job in which case I apologize for intimating you're a zealot........in this instance. :)
Also can we either archive an entire folder or just leave it where it is? I think that will make your job as a hoover easier and when I try to cross reference things from a series I don't have to check both the original folder and the archive folder.
If you're worried about the main board becoming longer we cold limit the main board from showing the top 5 most recently updated threads to 3 but I don't think people drill down beyond that and it may inhibit some conversations.

I'll leave the Finn decision up to you as my opinion is biased and I am the type of woman who remembers slights real or imagined until my death bed (that line is straight from my Mother, who knows me way too well)

Are you trying to say that isn't all women?

Yes I delete the folders when there aren't any open topics in them. It seemed silly to leave it and clutter up the back end on the off chance that someone might want another buddy read for the series anytime soon. I rationalized that it would make it quicker adding and sorting new folders and didn't take that much time.
I went back and readded the folder for the hope and red series because I knew you'd be wanting to read the third one at some point. I tried to be thoughtful about what I deleted.

As far as archiving everything or leaving it, after the initial cleanup, I was planning to leave everything in their folders until the series reads are finished, such as leaving summoner and inquisition open until the buddy read for the full series is done, for example. Specifically because I know you like to cross reference.

Honestly if it wasn't such a complete pain in the ass to put the folder back in alphabetical order I'd agree with you. It's not so bad if you you have an author with a name starting near the top or bottom of the alphabet but even an R book me forever to keep inching up the ladder.

Cool, thanks. I know your eye is twitching so I apologize. I do like the idea of either archiving it all or none of it though............except Malazan. If you archive it I'll have to go all Lord Business and send out the micro-managers on yo ass. :)

Also I do think we'll see re-reads as the group grows. There's been several reads of all the Sanderson series, Power Mage books, Riyria, Malazan, Manifest Delusions and others. Granted these are the most popular anyway but I could see something like Ketty Jay getting another group together in the future.
I guess we have to decide if it's more efficient to leave folders and have a lot more to shift up/down through when a new one is needed or if it's more efficient to keep them at a minimum but then have to re-add every now and then. Anyone good at math who can run the numbers? Lol
Haha and no eye twitch this morning - it was a good thought. I, too, like the idea of keeping the folders complete until the series read is finished (everything that's published for that series, anyway). There are a handful I didn't do this for with the initial cleanup, but I'll be consistent going forward.
Also, the Malazan folder doesn't exist. I don't touch it, I don't see it, these aren't the droids you're looking for.

It's a fair point. I'll leave it to your better judgement but would gauge how popular the writer and books are. Stuff like Sanderson there's always going to reads. Stuff like Iron Age I can see never coming up again.

Sounds good, sorry for being a PITA, you've done an amazing job. I think it's one of those days where I should just keep my mouth and finger shut before I piss the world off.

LOL. I take my Malazan nearly as seriously as you take spots on your glasses. :)

I would ban someone for doing this as well. Who flags someone for saying fuck? Ugh

Hahahaha. I can swear Margret. Not often. Usually when I injury myself or the kids really annoy me. Which translates to I've asked them to do something 5 times and they haven't moved.
Haha pretty much. I'm sure when I talk all my kids hear is blah, blah, blah. Sometimes my husband too ;-).
4 those were the days. Looking back they were much easier than now. It seemed easier than teenagers and preteens. (Though it feels so long ago now I might look back with rose tinted glasses). I have two boys going through puberty at the moment. My 12 and 13 year olds. The 12 year old is worse than the 13. Though my 13 year old isn't happy at present as it's looking very likely his younger brother (by 13 months) might just be taller than him by the end of the year and his voice is breaking. It's so raspy.

Seriously. Our nonthreatening Kiwi will be capping forum people who break the rules with her 9-MM next thing you know.

All kidding aside the three of you have done a brilliant job at helping to grow the group. I feel like there's so much going on and everybody does something and yet it's so little effort now. It's funny to think this started out as a place we were just going to do a couple of Malazan reads.
I think we have over 30 people who post every day in the forum. There's other forums where you might not get 30 posts in a week. Then there's another 30 or so who will post a lot while engaged in a group read and then they drop off a bit until the next one. And finally a host of intermittent but consistent people.

Hey Niki, I've noticed that you archived Daughter of the Forest. That buddy read isn't till November, I'm sure it just got culled by accident but I think it should still be active. I don't want you to think I'm trying to micromanage you or anything, I'm sorry.
I will reactivate it later on my break, if I can figure it out

Whoops!!! I had it on my list of things to look at, then left it alone. I found the list again a couple of days later and was like "why didn't I do that one?" lol
Thanks for the catch - sorry about that. And please don't worry/apologize about calling me on mistakes - I won't get offended. I know I've already caught and fixed a few haha.
I'm an organizing cylon. If you need me, or me, or me, I'll be in the archives.

So far I've deleted about 45 folders (based on the number of archived series). Even if we keep a few popular ones open, I think the shifting will continue to be a little easier. I ran some numbers, and it's definitely more efficient to delete the majority (I couldn't figure out how to rate the "annoyance factor" of re-adding an author, but even with an adjusted ratio, I think deleting still comes out ahead). I do see merit in keeping a few really popular ones, like Sanderson, open. It doesn't bother me having a few popular author place-holders because they don't show up in the main body without active threads in them.
It would help me out if we could decide which ones merit leaving open. I want to feel confident about deleting folders I don't think will get activity anytime soon, but it's definitely subjective and I don't want to step on toes. I bet with every click of returning Rothfuss to its place was like, "click...damnit...click...niki...damnit...niki..." lol.
Also, if in general you don't have time to move the folders, I'll do it - I find a sick sort of satisfaction out of watching it move up the ladder haha.

I'm trying to find Jenna's Challenge rules post. I don't think I moved it... but I can't seem to find it haha.
The relationship as to how close to the middle of the folders one is should also be a very key factor, I admit re adding Marillier wasn't as bad as it would've been 6 weeks ago... despite my grumpy cat face cursing your name lol
Haha - "Organizing Tips from Hell" by Niki Hawkes. Guaranteed to make you hate organizing (and me) by chapter 2!

Thanks Scott. I love that you and Jenna created this group. The group has exploded in size. It's wonderful.
Haha Niki creating bots for herself. The group is looking a lot tidier now and easier to find current posts.
I think Malazan folder should stay no matter what and should get archived. It won't anyway as it's so active and will be for years.
Mother of Dragons now. I love my new title.
