Sci-fi isn't my top sub-genre and yet I always seem to like the books I read within it.

That's why I said no starting until January. That should give people time to get through most if not all of that challenge.

Good call on that one, I didn't notice the time rule until after I had commented on this one and opened up the general challenge thread. :)

I thought about trying to find one with a goldfish in it just to really tweak everybody. :)

Gemina has a pet fish in it... one that the paraplegic hacker struggles to keep alive throughout the book...

What I did to match these up was googled "best fantasy books...." and then fairies, demons, etc. They always led me back to GR but it's so much more direct to do it that way than use the GR search engine. Once I got to the best list I scrolled down until I found something already in my TBR. Obviously I'm somewhat dependant upon the lists to be accurate doing it that way and if it turns out the lists are wrong I'll remove the entry.
I imagine a few of these are going to be hard to fill and I'll need to open my search up.

That sounds like the best way of doing it to me.
I'm hoping to match these up with books that I already own and need to read as much as I can. :)
This challenge is probably pretty easy if you're open to Paranormal Romance...
Yeti-shifter: The Bigger They Are...
Kraken: The Shark Who Rode a Seahorse (M/M Were-shark & Were-seahorse romance)... I haven't read this one, but I stumbled upon it a few years ago looking for weird shifters... I like the hybrids in Shelly Laurenston's books, but have rarely found anything similar outside of M/M, sadly...
Alchemy: Love Potion No. 9
I'm sure I could keep going...

Me and PNR (romance in general) are on the outs right now, myself... but a few years ago I read A TON... which is where most of those ideas came from...but I can think of so many
Unicorn: Elder Races... Reincarnation: Dark Hunter... Demons: Dark Hunter... Lucifer/Hades: Demonica... Mediums: Karmic Consultants... Steampunk: Iron Seas... Griffin: Elder Races... Tarot: Elder Races novellas...
