I am really getting peeved with all these historical TC re-releases that list the killer as the author. Do they really think Elizabeth Brownrigg would have written a book about her own case called "God's Revenge Against Murder!" making sure to include a description of her own hanging?

Thanks K.A., and as I found out it is almost like a 'high' but not the high I want. At least I know what it looks like and kind of feels like if you are drunk. I don't drink at all so this is interesting.

The premise was a little different. It's not every day you can read a true crime about a priest that murders a nun. That said, this book had a hard time keeping my interest. It seemed to go off in other directions where I wondered what he was talking about had to do with the crime. There was little background information on the nun or the priest so I had a hard time feeling like I knew either one. And in the end, I wasn't convinced that the priest's guilt was proved beyond a reasonable doubt. Not that I don't believe he was guilty, I just don't think it was proven.

I started and finished Upside Down by Jerid M. Fisher. It was an interesting case to read. But the first part of it was mostly facts from the investigation. Once he started from the beginning then it was an easy read. I wish there had been much more detail of the growing up years and interaction with their friends, neighbours etc. Now I just started reading Plague of Justice by Stan Turel.

Now reading The Hot House: Life Inside Leavenworth Prison. The very first chapter was surprising because it was about our local Freddy Krueger serial killer, Ronald Bailey -- they changed his name to Jeffrey Hicks. I never knew he was kept in Leavenworth.

I received in the mail, and started reading, House of Horrors: The Shocking True Story of Anthony Sowell, The Cleveland Strangler. So far it is really, really excellent.
The Burning of Evelyn Foster just came in the mail. And The Electra Story: The Dramatic History of Aviation's Most Controversial Airliner just arrived from the U of M Dearborn library.
While waiting for them to go my oil change and tire rotation, I got a start on Dark Harvest, my chosen Halloween read, because for some crazy reason House of Horrors: The Shocking True Story of Anthony Sowell, The Cleveland Strangler was not in my bookbag.

Understatement of the year.
I decided to re-read my copy of Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion after watching a biography of her on Netflix. I haven't read the book in years, but it was still on my shelf. Lo and behold, the very first story is a True Crime short about Lucille Maxwell Miller, who burned her husband to death in a car in San Bernardino, CA, in 1964. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucille...

I started reading Long Mile Home . It's about the Boston Marathon attack and its aftermath.
I was well into Cold Storage by Don Lasseter when Ghosts of the Tsunami: Death and Life in Japan's Disaster Zone came in for me at the library and once I opened that, I could not put it down. But Lasseter's book is excellent, too.
After finishing Ghosts of the Tsunami: Death and Life in Japan’s Disaster Zone I had to open it again and page one and start reading again.

I just got my copy of Invisible Killer: The Monster Behind the Mask in the mail. Can't wait to start it despite being fully absorbed in Cold Storage.
I started reading The True Story of the Columbo Murders by Bonnie Remsberg. She has a difference style of telling the story and it is very interesting. Things I didn't read in the other book about the murders.
I'm 1/4 of the way into The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace: A Brilliant Young Man Who Left Newark for the Ivy League.

I was quite vexed to discover that most of the books I used to own that would be right for the monthly challenge are no longer in my collection. I have no clue why I would ever get rid of Just Another Indian: A Serial Killer and Canada's Indifference or The Broken Circle but they are clean gone. I still have Starlight Tour: The Last, Lonely Night of Neil Stonechild and I did mean to re-read that one, and in theory Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI is on its way from another library, but...In the meantime I have started on Confessions of Henry Lee Lucas. Those are crimes BY and Indian rather than against them, but...
...Koren, I agree Bag Of Toys was a lot of work to get into. I was almost to the end before I started to feel satisfied with the story.
