In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the  OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

Questions:

What was the star rating you gave it?
What did you think of the characters?
What did you think of the story?
Did you enjoy it? If so, why? If not, why?
Would you recommend this to others?

I've been wanting to read this forever. Hoping to get it in by the end of the year but don't think I will this month.

Farren (mmmcookies) I absolutely love the plot of this book, but I thought the writing could have been much better. There was so much infodump that it kept taking me out of the story, and the author focused a little too much on the 80's references. Of course I rooted for Wade, but Aech was definitely my favorite character. I think I rated it 3 or 3.5 stars. When I wrote my review I said it would work well as a movie, and judging by that epic teaser trailer I wasn't wrong. Plus Simon Pegg is in it and he is one of my favorite actors. I plan to listen to the audiobook soon because I hear Wil Wheaton did such a fantastic job that the pacing seems faster.

Wendy (wmaresca) I read this book last month as a book read for one of my other book groups. I liked it can't say I loved it. It was neat to read about all the 80's references. I was never a big gamer so I think I was lost a little on that. I did love the characters. Just not one of my favorites this year.

I was going to give it a try but I've packed up so many of my books recently it's been hard to remember what I haven't packed and what I have packed.
