finished - (view spoiler)[I really liked this book it wasn't a totally 4 stars but it was good.

I really liked how portraits how real can someone became in some situations. I don't think Daisy true loved Jay, maybe sometime but not after he leaves to the war, I think she was more in love with his money than himself and when Tom's mistress died she thought either way she would loss everything.

Tom is this typical guy who can do anything but if other people does it he has the right to get mad or criticizes them, I wanted to punch him in the face almost every time he opened his mouth. It was annoying and so childish.

about Jordan, I really didn't feel at all her character it was completely dull. now, Jay, oh Gatsby, you magnificent creature, willing to lose everything just because of the thought of love, an incredibly white lie of love. you should have known better sweetheart. (hide spoiler)]

The entire first half of the book was quite bland and nearly nothing happened. It picked up a bit at the end, but I still didn't really enjoy it. I hope that others like this better than I did!! I'm on chapter 6 I believe, page 118, 61%. The writing style is so beautiful, I'm really liking it. The story however I'm finding really dull. There is no plot. I understand that it is supposed to show what the Roaring '20s were like, I love stories about the '20s, but this has no plot. I don't feel anything towards the characters and it feels like nothing is happening. I'm just incredibly bored. I'd love to try reading some of his other books because I love Fitzgerald's writing style, but I'm gonna say this again THIS STORY IS SO DULL! I really wanted to love it, I've heard great things about it, I just need there to be plot. I've been reading it and listening to the audio, and since there is only an hour left (technically 2, but I can speed it up to it'll take me 1) on the audio I think I will finish it.

I totally get you. I liked the prose a lot, especially towards the later part of the book, and appreciated the humour at the beginning, but the story seems pretty flat to me . I really dislike plotless stories. Mostly.
I also didn't quite connect with any of the characters for the majority of the book (and that's probably the point? Since this is to show how selfish and dishonest people were..

I actually just finished and will share my further thoughts in a while

I like the setting too! It's interesting to read about the 20s, there is something so refreshing about it...not a recent past, but still had so much of the modernism we have today (I was delighted to learn that women drived even then, and played sports professionally! ) And the parties, of course. Some glitter in the duller, less pretty world (as the book also shows): bribery was common, and unethical business, toxic marriages, just overall dishonest people.

I quite liked the ending, and the last few chapters were for me the most enjoyable in the book. I can see the emotional appeal to this classic and thus why it's so popular (like our main character also observes: consequences of dreaming one dream for too long). That was the best part and the most enjoyable thing about the book for me

I know the gist of the story, but I forgot all the symbolism like what the eggs mean and the green light at the dock. I remember that the billboard eyes is supposed to be God (I think). There were (and still are) rumors circulating that he and some of his closer colleagues were engaged in an affair. His own wife questioned it.
