Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Oops, sorry, Leea! I mixed this thread with the others that already have spoiler warnings in the header. I corrected it. :)

message 602: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Thanks Jen for being so understanding. No need to apologize.

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I only apologized b/c I HATE stuff getting spoiled for me! :)

message 604: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Yeah, I feel the same way. Major complaint in this group was all the spoilers. So we're trying to fix that. Thanks for changing it :)

message 605: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments Yes I remember that clearly I just didn't remember his name. EEEEwwww no redeeming qualities.

message 606: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I'm pretty sure no one likes him in this group!

message 607: by Diane (new)

Diane (danderv) | 60 comments I gotta say Donner is probably my least favorite...There are many characters in this series that I absolutely don't like, but they are strong characters and deserve my opinion of them. Donner is just....annoying!

I don't think I gave anything away, so it should be spoiler free.

message 608: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I agree, there wasn't much to like about Donner. I suppose I didn't think of him though because he wasn't evil like Boble. He was just weak.

message 609: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Yeah, Donner's just annoying, but that's it. lol
Boble is evil incarnate.

message 610: by Lori (last edited Dec 12, 2011 03:20PM) (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I have been of the Lord John camp... I guess because I feel so proprietary and protective of Claire and Jamie. And while Leghair (LOL) wasn't my favorite character ever, I see her as a spoiled teenager who never really understood love, sex, or relationships; it's tough not to dislike her, but I can't say she's my least favorite character, because she never really *threatened* Claire & Jamie - not in the true sense.

LJ, on the other hand, has always been a clear threat - in my opinion. He's almost the male version of Claire in some ways, although he has Jamie's sense of honor and duty. LJ and Jamie obviously shared a lot during Jamie's imprisonment in Ardsmuir, including gentlemen's pursuits of chess and literature. And LJ kept Jamie in England, even if it was for somewhat selfish purposes. Then LJ and Jamie mend their fences, although we've still got a lot of ground to cover on the hows and whys, but The Scottish Prisoner shows us some of it. Sure, the crux of it is William. And think about it: Jamie entrusted Claire to protect & raise their child (Bree). Jamie entrusted LJ to protect & raise his son, William. While Jamie isn't in love with LJ, Jamie didn't even tell Jenny about William. So LJ has a part of Jamie that is as close as it can be to the relationship that LJ has wanted (or still wants) from Jamie. Which is why I've always thought LJ is so dangerous to Jamie & Claire... and why I'm still concerned as to what the aftermath of all the falderal in EITB will be in MOBY (Book 8).
Yes, we've seen lines from Diana G that indicate all will likely be well, but... how long will it take for all to be well between Jamie & Claire? I'm not so sure it will be easily forgiven and forgotten by anyone; remember how things about Claire and Frank kept popping up with Jamie? And how even Leoghaire affected Claire, despite Claire knowing that Jamie couldn't possibly really love L?

HOWEVER, I will readily admit that Lord John has grown on me. When he was so kind to Bree during her pregnancy and when everyone else was off looking for Roger, I hated to admit to myself that I was beginning to like the man. It made me wonder if LJ would become even more dangerous to Claire & Jamie, as if he were supplanting Claire somewhat by being in Bree's confidence and part of her schemes... I mean, virtually everyone in Jamie's life who knows him likes and respects Lord John. Seems like even Claire might be won over now, too, who knows?

But Lord John has ceased being my least favorite character, probably because of the Lord John Grey books. I do say that begrudgingly, too!.

While Black Jack Randall is obvious, I dislike Frank even more. Frank had a lot to put up with, it's true. And he did love Bree beyond words. He must have loved Claire or thought he did. But there's something still so cold and calculating about Frank that reminds me too much of Black Jack to allow me to like him (Frank). Which sometimes makes me wonder about Diana G's thoughts on nature versus nurture... Jack's "son" made a quick appearance in EITB, and he didn't seem to be such a great guy, either.

Bonnet is definitely high on my list, too. Lots of storyline with this guy, but not much good to him, nightmares or no.

But the brothers forming the "posse" and Bobble and company are probably highest on my list. Most of them got exactly what they deserved, but it was too swift. I wanted them to suffer more.

And I agree with the Lizzy camp. I was never a big Lizzy fan, nor a fan of her two husbands. Yuck!

But Percy is probably my very least favorite character, which is odd, I know, because the strict Outlander fans might now know him very well. But he surely made his appearance in EITB, and he seems even more oily and unlikeable than ever to me. And that's something, given my thoughts on Lord John, right? I'm sure Percy is going to make much more trouble for everyone. With his current surname being "Beauchamp", I shudder to wonder if we're really going to have to endure a great-great-great+ relation to Claire's family in MOBY? It seems obvious, but I keep hoping it's just coincidence.

Gina | 87 comments I don't know who Donner is yet, but i don't like Bree.
I know she's Jamie's child and all, but she can get a little be irritating.
I think it's because i'm in The Fiery Cross and Gabaldon keeps on adding Bree/Roger parts. I'm used to it just being Claire and i want to keep it that way.

message 612: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I felt that way at first about the Bree Roger parts too. I wanted to get on with the story. In my opinion you will begin to get an attachment to those parts eventually. By Echo you will have so many other storylines getting in the way that you will hope for a Bree/Roger line. I love Echo though I just get impatient for the main story lines.

Ha ha! I can see why you say that. Of all the characters, she very much sticks out like a sore thumb.

message 614: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1 comments I'm now reading Drums of Autumn and yeah I would dearly love to drop kick Bree through the goal poles of life.... what a twit. At this point she ranks #1 as my least favorite.

message 615: by Sue (new)

Sue Erickson | 673 comments I never liked Mrs. Bug. I thought she was just a pushy busybody! For some reason she always irked me.

message 616: by Teresita (last edited Jan 19, 2012 04:17AM) (new)

Teresita A | 531 comments I don't like any of the bad guys in the book ofcourse...But out of the one's that are not really supposed to be 'bad', I will have to go with Laoghaire...I can't stand her...she really ticked me off alot of times...or is 'Irked' me a better word? lol... Starting from the time she tried to put a curse on Jamie and Claire's relationship by putting something on their bed til in EITB on how she treated Jamie and Claire. She is the most selfish, unforgiving, hateful, bitter character I can think of. And yes ofcourse I hated Geillis, after I found out how evil she was...when she brought Claire upto her room in Outlander and asked where she was from and how she got there, I knew right then no good would come from her.
I hated, Bonnet 9he got what he deserved!), Harley Boble( I really wanted this man to suffer when he died), Jack Randall (Good riddance), (someone mentioned but I forget who Donner is now)...Tom Christie's stepdaughter (can't think of her name now, for some reason I get her name confused with Marsali..I know it's starts with an M too)..

message 617: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Chaves | 16 comments I dislike Black Jack Randall the most. I know there are people who relly enjoy inflicting pain on people and I find that truly evil. It's like they gain strengh and life from it. Even when DG tries to show that JR has a soft spot, I could care less. I also didn't like Mrs. Bug, couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe I could sense the years of resentment. Even when she helped Claire find the rotten bread, I felt their was a hidden agenda.

message 618: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 2 comments All this hating on Lord John :( He is one of my favorate characters! I mean, Who can blame him for being in love with Jamie!!

My least favorate would be Lizzie and her "husbands" How very odd they are.

message 619: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments I think that Lizzie and her husbands are a funny and interesting storyline. I didn't expect that from her at all haha!! That was a WOW moment for sure.

message 620: by Gwennie, biblioholic (last edited Jan 26, 2012 08:31AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I love the Lizzie and twins storylines. I think it's unique and it shows another type of functioning, if unusual, family dynamic. As soon as Kezzie and Josiah came into the book I loved them, and they both adore her so more power to them. They're all happy.

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook (dantaramian) I have few .... Of course black jack Randall, bonnet, Jocasta and raymond

message 622: by Sue (new)

Sue Erickson | 673 comments Randall and Bonnet is a given, although I sorta of liked Bonnet even tho I know I shouldn't have. Jocasta was overbearing, but I liked Raymond. I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him in stories to come.

message 623: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I kind of liked Bonnet too.

message 624: by Sue (new)

Sue Erickson | 673 comments I guess it's liking the Bad Boy mentality!

I agree that Laoghaire is selfish, unforgiving, hateful and bitter. She makes it easy to dislike her. Malva Christie. Yeah, she's a baddie. Hated her for trying to (view spoiler)

Donner is (view spoiler)

message 626: by Tina (last edited Jan 28, 2012 07:03PM) (new)

Tina | 162 comments I agree about Malva Christie. I didn't like her saying ,(view spoiler)

message 627: by Lori (last edited Jan 29, 2012 02:29PM) (new)

Lori (lorimcd) (Edited to mark possible spoilers)

Malva made me angry, mostly because(view spoiler)

It was truly sad that so many believed Malva. (view spoiler)

Malva certainly was my least favorite character for awhile, but when her story was finally revealed, I couldn't help but feel pity for her. She was truly lost... what chance did she have? (Although the betrayal of both Jamie and Claire was hard to swallow.) Thank goodness for Roger! (view spoiler)

I love how DG shows us that no matter how "bad" or "good" someone is perceived to be, each has darkness and light... each has to make the choice about what actions to take, and each set of actions has consequences of some sort.

message 628: by Gwennie, biblioholic (last edited Jan 28, 2012 04:06PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I pitied her too. I mean, I was angry at first, but (view spoiler).

message 630: by Gwennie, biblioholic (last edited Jan 28, 2012 04:07PM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Yeah, I think it was. Oh my, I just realized that we all forgot to mark our spoilers!! Can everyone please mark your spoilers. I know a few group members who havent' read that far.

Lori, in particular, can you please hide some of your post with spoilers?

message 631: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Lori I completely agree, about (view spoiler)

message 632: by Tina (new)

Tina | 162 comments Sorry, I wasn't thinking either. Fixed!!!

message 633: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Thank you so much Tina!

message 634: by Carren (new)

Carren Kay | 953 comments Her brother was the father! I felt bad for Claire, too, but Malva was put up to this by her brother, just to save his behind. People, under diress, will do stuff they normally wouldn't do.

message 635: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Wendy F wrote: "Oh my, I just realized that we all forgot to mark our spoilers!! Can everyone please mark your spoilers. I know a few group members who havent' read that far."

Sorry, Wendy - I lose track of what might be a spoiler. Fixed my post. Let me know if anything else should be marked, please.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments It looks great! It's okay, I got away from it too and had to go back.

message 637: by Tina (new)

Tina | 162 comments Ronald McNab...not a favorite. He is the one who (view spoiler) Terrible person!!!

message 638: by Carol L (new)

Carol L | 218 comments Oh, yes. Thoroughly ugly.

message 639: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Great one! He was awful!

message 640: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That is a good one, not sure how I forgot.

message 641: by Diane (new)

Diane | 1360 comments I agree about Ronald. I guess when I think of my least favorite characters I think about ones that don't play big role in the plot. Geillis and BJR are definitely evil and I certainly do not like them as people but they certainly make the story interesting.

message 642: by Gerri (new)

Gerri I would have the go with Stephen Bonnet, I think he was a irrehensible character that reaked havoc though several books.
