Least Favorite Character?

Here! Here! Wendy!:)

I too hate it that Jamie and Claire lost twenty years, but it is part of the story. And as far as lamenting that now they are "old", maybe what the story is telling us is that "old" does not mean love, touching, desire, and all the love really is must fade away with advancing years. I admit that I am a grandmother, but perhaps it is a message in itself. If those of us who are not in our twenties can identify with the love and passion of young Jamie and Claire then perhaps readers in their twenties should appreciate what comes with time - Jamie did. Just food for thought.

Thank you Terry!!! You've expresssed exactly how I feel as well and I couldn't have said it better!

Hi Claudia, I agree with you and Terry on that...Just goes to show love does not care your age or anything...that is one of the things that makes this story so special. Their love is so strong I can almost feel it. I think most of us would love to find a love theirs or a man like Jamie Fraser. I kmow I would.

Someone mentioned Frank and I admit I agree. He had his moments where I didn't like him but I also felt sorry for him too.

Agreed! It's not that I don't like him, he just pales in comparison to a majority of the other characters and he certainly isn't interesting enough to merit his own books. Yawn!!!

I concur about LJG. I was slowly warming up to him, more because Jamie likes him so much, but after reading the LJG books I like him even less. I feel he does a lot more from a sense of honour than heart... of course this does not apply to his longing for Jamie and I am only shocked at Claire's decission on Echo.
Well if we are being unpopular then I have to pick Jenny. Although I greatly empathise with her I do not like her methods and the fact she always thinks she knows best. Her pride I find to be very hard to get over as she hurts the people around her. I do see the good in her and the strength but I find she irritates me a lot.
Sara I had the same with Bree but like you she grew on me on the second read through :)

Then there's Lord John and I may be in the minority but I love his character. I appreciate his sense of honor and his sense of humor- both give him heart! His series is different from Outlander but I enjoy the intrigue and his ability to solve his current dilemma. Anyway, looking forward to The Scottish Prisoner to get both Lord John and Jamie's perspective...especially Jamie's perspective!

I'm sure I said this before, but there are very few characters in this series that I dislike. Even the ones that are 'bad' usually have something redeeming about them at least a little bit. Jenny is absolutely stubborn and thinks she knows best, but without Jenny both Ian and Jamie would have died. Everyone has faults, and that's what makes me love them all so much.
The only character that I hated, that I can't find anything about him that makes me relate to him at all, is Harley Boble. And that's probably because he wasn't written with much depth. Even BJR and Loaghaire had things about them I could relate too.

Like you, Wendy, I found all the characters very interesting.

Actually, I can identify with everyone's feelings on the least fav characters. Jenny is another one I forgot to mention & when Lord John was first introduced I wasn't sure about him. But as I got further into the series, I started to really like him.
Oh dear, I can't for the life of me, remember who Harley Boble is?
But who knows, maybe this will change when I do my second read of the series.

Please remember to spoiler tag anything that newer group members haven't read yet. I know none of us are used to it, lol.
*********SPOILERS.. ****
Hello Sara, ditto :)
I agree that Jenny's iron will kept these wonderful men alive. It is after Claire's return I find her so difficult and I am not sure about her placement at the end of Echo.
I do agree all the characters are adding wonderful colours to this rich tapestry and I would not part with a single one. However, it does not mean I like them all very much:) Infact on reflection I probably had more of a problem with Malva Christie than Jenny. What a bisom. I always loved the Geyllis Duncan time though, she was so deliciously bad and up front like Bonnet. Complete libertines who enjoyed what they did.

Especially looking at them compared to Ian. Like Jamie was a second father to Ian, and you can see a LOT of Jamie's personality in Ian, with Ian Sr's temperament. Where as William has Jamie's temperament but not puch of his tendencies. He gets that from LJ. It's so interesting.

Yes they are interesting in their differences and similarities, but if you throw Bri into the mix William makes more sense. Especially as they both have headstrong mothers.
Bri like William grew up as an only child and very privaliged compared to Ian who grew up hand to mouth during the war and the horrendous after math as the baby of happy brood of children on a farm. He and Jamie knew how to endure hardship and both lived very similar lives growing up in Lallybroch with two loving parents. Their expectations would be close to.
I too am enjoying this younger generation and I adore Ian time always.

Thanks, Tina! We just don't want someone to see this before they have finished ABOSAA.
I liked the Bugs too. It was an interesting path they took.

Stepehen Bonnet is complicated himself. Hard man raised in hard times. Never wants to be poor. His "relationship" with a certain lady was very confusing. One minute he was the worst of libertines and the next a hero and then even worse again. He seems a female Geillis, I wondered if they were related. You never knew what was next but that you could not trust them.

Roger but he could be Geillis' great great great grandfather or something ( lord knows he likes to plant his seed all over) he has the green eyes like they do. That could mean that he may be able to go through the stones also... Interesting thought.
Yes so right the plot gambles along when Bonnet shows up. The constant reference to the green eyes got me wondering along with his resemblance to Roger and his temprement. Although it may have all been a ruse for the earlier plot of getting Roger disposed of. Poor Roger, it's bad enough having Geillis and the other chap (no names for now) but SB too, how would he go on?!

I just want him to be a baddie, plain and simple.

Also if Bonnet never claimed the child, it's ma was Scottish it could easily grow up there. Yes endless evil possibilities and stone enterring could occur.

Yeah, he's about the only one you can't feel sorry for. Oh, and the ringleader, Hodge...
LOL! I said that.
I think the circumstances are different. They were forced to bring Mandy and Jemmy through because of the heart condition. It was the only way to save her life. But it was violent and painful to walk through the stones. Claire said it was like being ripped apart and then put back together. They said that the kids had nightmares afterwards and that Jemmy was terrified of that feeling. There is no way Claire would have subjected Bree to that by choice.
