R.J. Simon | 16 comments Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I was just wondering if this group has a Listopia list/s? (Is that the right terminology?either way I'm hoping you get what I mean.)
Also, is it a good idea for author to make lists and how are they different to adding books to our own shelves or to a group shelf?
Does anyone use them for self promotion and if so how?
I did read a few articles about them but they still seem quite mysterious.

I have to confess I have no idea about lists.

I doubt if making your own will do much for your books. Making lists and putting your own books on them might be a bit transparent :) Getting on other peoples' lists might be good, but it has to happen organically (i.e., you can't go about asking to be put on lists, or adding yourself).

But I don't actually know squat about listopia lists.

I have a look at Listopia lists from time to time, especially when I'm looking for a certain book to meet criteria like 'theme - Pirates' and 'beginning with r, v or z' to fit the A to Z Challenge!

I know I did add my own books to lists early on, but realised that gathered disapproval. Basically you need to shift your mindset when using Goodreads from 'self book promotion' to 'self reader promotion'. Getting yourself out to a network of people who might actually read your books, because you're a nice person with lots of good views on books people like.

The latest Author newsletter from Goodreads had a click-on article for that, which I must go and read! Funnily enough it's also a topic I'm working on for my next monthly guest post on someone's blog.

So back to Listopia - no GMGR doesn't 'have' lists, but if you search there on MG, you'll find dozens already. I must go and put all my favourite authors on one or two of them!
