Could someone please switch the listed order of authors for Mark for Everyone? The book, as shown on the cover, is written by N.T. Wright, who also writes under the name of Tom Wright, but the name N.T. Wright features prominently on the cover and inside pages.

Thank you!

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments GR lists all editions of a book under the name first published . In the case Tom Wright appears to be that name.

The edition is set correctly

Barry | 113 comments Hello, Paula! Thank you for reading my request and for your response.

I searched the GR librarians' manual and found a section that may shed some light on my request:

"Regarding author pseudonyms or pen names - some authors write or have written under multiple names. When editing or adding information for a book written by an author with multiple names, enter the author's name as on the front cover as the primary author. The author's other names may be added in the other author fields. Original name or other pen names can be added and linked via a Librarian Note in the description field, or using the Librarian Note feature located above the Title field."

The paragraph immediately following also deals with pen names and seems to contradict the paragraph I've quoted. It seems to me the librarians manual could use some clarity in this matter.

☕ Lachgas ♿ (lachgas) | 9386 comments No, ti doesn't contradict it - it specifies it in cases the same book is published under several names - the paragraph you quoted is for different books from technically same author with different pen names.

Barry | 113 comments Ah, so the paragraph I quoted is saying that the book in question should be filed under N.T. Wright (since that is the name appearing on the cover) with Tom Wright as "other author"?

No, that only refers to cases where a specific work has only ever been published under the pen name. Then it is ok to add the author's real name (assuming they also wrote some works under it) as a second author.

For cases where the specific work has been published under different names at different times, please see https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/4...
In some cases, a book may be originally published under a pen name, but then later reissued under the author's original name. When this happens, the author listed for any and all editions should be the author name the book was originally published under - so the reissued edition would need its primary author name changed to the originally published pen name, with the additional name added as secondary for all editions with it on the cover. Doing this will allow the various editions to be combined.

Barry | 113 comments Reading this link just seems to confirm my original assertion that the book in question ought to have N.T. Wright as the primary author. "Tom Wright" is not a pen name or 'real name' as such - they both are names of the same author. Pen names refer to names like Dr. Seuss or Richard Bachman. What Tom/N.T. Wright is doing is no different than C.H. Spurgeon publishing something as Charles Spurgeon. One isn't a pen name of the other, they are just multiple names.

Some authors write or have written under multiple names. When editing or adding information for a book written by an author with multiple names, enter the author's name as on the front cover as the primary author. The author's other names may be added in the other author fields.

And we treat those as different pen names as well. Regardless of what you call them, the policy is clear.

Closing thread.
