All The Pretty Horses - book and movie

The first link I found on YouTube about this film presented a scene with Matt Damon and Sam Shepard, which saddened me, as Sam Shepard passed away only a few days ago. I didn't know he was in this movie. That little bit of a conversation showed what a striking presence he was on screen. Here's the link to it: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment UK.

From those two trailers I gathered (the other you can see in our videos), it appears the movie might be interesting. The trailer revealed a bit too much of the storyline for my tastes, so if you prefer to know as little as possible before watching/reading anything, do not watch it.

I absolutely loved Cormac McCarthy's The Road (and if you haven't read it already, I would certainly like to encourage you to check the book and our threads about it, the links here: The Road). I hope I'll like this novel too.

As usual, your thoughts and impressions about the book and the movie are more than welcome!

I am not yet halfway through this book. I find it rather slow going. While I am reading it, I enjoy it. But it is not a book that calls out to me to pick it up, if you know what I mean. And every now and then McCarthy writes something jarring that snaps me out of the book, almost like he is waving his arms in the air begging for attention.

I really enjoyed the book, but I had to do it on audio because McCarthy's dislike for punctuation and quotation marks drives me batty. Listening made it work, I could hear the lyrical poetry of it. I also really enjoyed the Spanish, since I haven't really gotten a chance to speak it lately. But there was enough Spanish that I imagine those without any experience with the language might have found it a bit cumbersome.

I didn't watch the movie (enjoyed the book well enough on its own) but I'm looking forward to continuing the trilogy. Has anyone else read the other two books?
