I've loved the Modesty Blaise books since I was a teenager. There is a great sense of fun and humour in these stories. Although originally pitched as a female James Bond, Modesty Blaise is nothing like him. Both the characters and stories are unique. I hope everyone enjoys this book as much as I will rereading it.
I think the villains in the series are the finest I have read -well rounded, odd physical characteristics, and some very strange motivations. None of them are cardboard cutouts, and all of them are worthy adversaries. I am going to re read Modesty again, and like Pete, hope everyone enjoys them as well. They are probably the most re read series in my bookcases.
I've been reading MB since the 1960s and am now collecting all the Titan comic collections. I also have all the books. At least once a year I re-read the novels and always enjoy them.I agree with Cindy about the villains. I'm not so sure I like the mystical/supernatural aspects but O'Donnell makes it so matter-of-fact that it's easily acceptable.
I think my favorite book is "Taste of Death," but there are favorite things in each book.
