David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments I've just joined the group, so hello. I spend as much time reading as I do writing but find it hard to find a happy balance. I've only recently got into thrillers since discovering and loving Lee Child's books. I love most genres though, providing the writing style is good. look forward to joining in with the group, getting to know the active members here, and hopefully getting some good thriller recommendations.

Cheers :o)

Welcome, David! You have a lot of people in this group who share your love of Lee Child.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments He's certainly very popular. I work in a library, and his books are rarely on the shelves.

Hi David, welcome to the group!

Nope... I don't like Lee Child, or Lehane, etc. I tend to the cozies, and/or the classic British (Sayers, James, etc.)

But that's the great thing about this group... there are lots of different tastes, something for everyone.

Best of luck with your writing.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments Thanks Hayes.

Wouldn't do for us all to like the same, there'd be no need for as many books.

Bill Welcome to the group, David. I've read a couple of Lee Child's books and they are very entertaining. One of the things I enjoy most is the great variety of options that can suit pretty well any taste. Enjoy yourself here and hope you find many new authors to enjoy.

Michael (micky74007) Welcome David. You might want to look at Vince Flynn's books, too.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments Thanks Bill.

I'm new to thrillers, having read mainly fantasy for years, but I'm sure there are other gems out there.

If I could, I'd "like" this post. A lot of people don't always remember that!

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments Too true.

Thanks Michael, I'll certainly give them a look.

Scott | 851 comments Welcome David...I concur about lucky you...I think working in a library would be wonderful...provided it had a comfy chair and was always closed except for me.

Barry Hatton | 11 comments Hello all. I'm new to Goodreads. I've spent the last year or so checking out classic crime novels to get a better idea of how established authors ply their trade (I've just co-authored my first one, "Lisbon Water Kills" - sorry for the shameless plug). Friends pointed to me to the Lee Child books, and I enjoyed "A Wanted Man" but in the end my memories of Jack Reacher have been ruined by Hollywood. I'm close to finishing Elmore Leonard's "Maximum Bob" which, having read half a dozen of his books, I think is the best so far (I also liked "Swag" a lot). I also recently read Carl Haasen's "Double Whammy," which was entertaining for the first two-thirds but then became a bit too far-fetched/implausible in some aspects. Anyway, I plan to share what I've learnt by writing some reviews of these and other books on Goodreads as time permits. Happy reading!

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments Thanks for the welcome, Malina and Scott. I do enjoy working in a library, unfortunately there's not much time for reading while I'm actually there. You're right, Scott, if I had it to myself that would be wonderful. My wife moans at me for bringing too many books home that I never find time to read.

Barry Hi. I may be wrong, but I think the idea is to start your own thread, not that I mind you being there :~)

Barry Hatton | 11 comments Ah, OK, thanks for the tip, David. I'll figure it out eventually

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 46 comments No worries. I may be wrong. I'm not new to goodreads, but I am new to this group; they all have their own way of doing things. Good luck with the book.

Malina | 2788 comments Welcome Barry!
Threads get mixed up all the time, especially with introductions :)

Hi Barry! Yes, normally someone starts their own thread for introducing the self, but it's okay. We're happy to have you in the group no matter where you say hi!

Shameless plugs are okay in an introduction, as long as there are no ad links. We have an authors' corner, with a tell us about your book section, also no ad links, and an advertisements thread where you can ad link away.

Bill Welcome to the group too, Barry.
