Interestingly, I refuse to read preview chapters of the next book either, and in my series, I have never included such a chapter. My view is, if you have ended the book satisfactorily, you should not then spoil that ending. Obviously others do not agree.

I agree. I don't touch preview chapters if I can help it; I go out and get the next book. And I like what was said about reading older series because of the characters. I did that with the Boxcar children when I was younger, and I liked how self-contained each book was. Of course, life can't always be so neat and tidy, and I think a certain level of "stuff to experience later" is okay, but I like the major threads to be resolved, the current threat to be dealt with, even if it's just a temporary solution to the big problem.
