I agree - I loved "The Eyre Affair" when I first read it, although it's been many years.

Ha! Fair point. I think realism and continuity of logic within a plot are separate issues, though. Our book next month is a great example of this; it's complete ridiculous and absolutely fantasy, but at the same time maintains a certain logic so that all of the absurdities fit within the plot.

Good point, Erin, although I don't think "Head" lacked a certain logic of its own...all you had to accept was a remarkably inept villain!

I was also completely appalled that Commander Johnson ended up not getting charged with hindering a police investigation by the end there.

Well, at least he was out of a job since the whole place was probably going to get closed down. Poor "guests."

LOL, I didn't know about Frozen Dead Guys day! Wasn't it Micky Mantle who was in a cryogenic facility? And there was a rumor that Walt Disney was, as well, but I don't know if that's true. I fear I don't know where the facilities are, either.

Mental Floss had an article: http://mentalfloss.com/article/20849/...
Looks like the baseball player was Ted Williams and the rumors about Walt Disney are not true.
And Samuel would chastise us all for using the wrong term, LOL. Cryonics, not cryogenics.

Thanks, Erin, I continue with my profound knowledge of anything to do with sports. As for Disney, I suspected that one was a myth, but it has been around for years.

I'd like to urge people to continue with the series, as I think the books get better as they go along. I view this series as a fun read, not necessarily great literature (or even great mystery), but something with engaging characters who engage one's interest and sympathy. And I'm looking forward to the discussion of next month's book.

I'm sorry I couldn't read & participate this month (or last). So many distractions during summertime! What's the September book, and is there a list somewhere?

You should get an email announcing the next book (which is "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde). Also, the next book is listed on the home page for the VBC, to the right hand side of the page. It's a fun read, hope you can get to it next month!

That said, I can't really say I expected a book with the title The Question of the Missing Head and associated plot summary to be particularly realistic.
Also, the authors are really the same person? All the authors' notes are written as though they are two people. I'm sure you're right; that just seems weird.
