August selection

I suggest Stef Soto, Taco Queen by Jennifer Torres and Refugee by Alan Gratz.

I just finished Stef Soto, Taco Queen. Good read. Quick. I think it will be a great book to add to my collection for MS. The story addressed some common stereotypes, without actually making it obvious. I always think that makes for some good discussion.

I've suggested Stef Soto as our monthly read a couple times. It has been out since early this year. Maybe the third time is the charm!

How about Refugee or The Hate U Give?

I just finished The Hate U Give. I think it's the only book I've written a review about here on Goodreads. I consider this a must read for anyone living with, dealing with, encountering a MS person and/or anyone of a different race. It is one of my 2 favorite books to recommend right now.

I loved The Hate U Give also and another (that I may have enjoyed more but had similar themes) is Piecing Me Together by Renee Watson. I am almost finished with Refugee - it will stick with me for a long, long time. Not to be missed!

I am currently listening to The Hate U Give. The audio is fantastic! I grew up in an all white suburban neighborhood but think of myself as a liberal white woman. This book illustrates why we should keep reading fiction...you can NEVER know what it is like to walk in anothers shoes . Mildred Taylor's books and Leon's Story give us just a peek into what it is like to grow up black in this country and why we should never tell people to "get over it". A MUST read!

I haven't read Hate U Give yet but have heard great things. Just finished Refugee and it is very powerful. That is what I would choose as I think Hate U Give is for an older audience.

I would like to recommend Roll by Darcy Miller. I have not read it yet, but the topic sounds fascinating. And I'm always looking for books that appeal to boys that aren't about magic or monsters, just for some variety.

The Hate you Give seems ya to me. Another terrific ya book about the same themes is DEAR MARTIN by Nic Stone.
