Samantha (samanthan) | 35 comments I'm looking for a mystery novel that's the first in a series of detective novels. There are stalactites/stalagmites on the cover. The premise is that the male main character left a city (Chicago maybe?) where he was a detective to move to a new state, I believe South or North Dakota or a state near there. I'm not sure if he's in an official or amateur capacity, but he begins to solve a crime in his new home. It's a contemporary set mystery.

Lost Treasure (Clay Cantrell Mystery Adventure, #1) by Bruce Wetterau Lost Treasure by Bruce Wetterau turned up while searching because of the cover image, but the main character is an ex-Army Ranger living in Virginia.

Samantha, around what year did you read this book?

What's the tone - mystery, crime, thriller/suspense, funny at times, some romance, etc.?

A long shot - Jewel Cave by Elizabeth Noble?

Stephen (swynn68) | 87 comments Probably not, because the cover image involves icicles rather than stalactites/stalagmites, but the description reminds me of William Kent Krueger's Iron Lake, about a cop who moves from Chicago to small-town Minnesota.

This is it actually! I mistook icicles for stalactites/stalagmites. Thank you!
