Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Lovely, Janice :)

I'll be reading Moving Day by Jonathan Stone

Seems like the protagonist has moved twice - from Poland to US and this move

"Forty years’ accumulation of art, antiques, and family photographs are more than just objects for Stanley Peke—they are proof of a life fully lived. A life he could have easily lost long ago.

When a con man steals his houseful of possessions in a sophisticated moving-day scam, Peke wanders helplessly through his empty New England home, inevitably reminded of another helpless time: decades in Peke’s past, a cold and threadbare Stanislaw Shmuel Pecoskowitz eked out a desperate existence in the war-torn Polish countryside, subsisting on scraps and dodging Nazi soldiers. Now, the seventy-two-year-old Peke—who survived, came to America, and succeeded—must summon his original grit and determination to track down the thieves, retrieve his things, and restore the life he made for himself.

Peke and his wife, Rose, trace the path of the thieves’ truck across America, to the wilds of Montana, and to an ultimate, chilling confrontation with not only the thieves but also with Peke’s brutal, unresolved past."

Jayme | 4519 comments Congratulations, Janice!!
I have started reading Swimming Home: A Novel Swimming Home A Novel by Mary-Rose MacColl for the challenge. The main character moves from Australia to London and then to New York City.

Roz | 4529 comments I'm planning on reading Cutting for Stone. I've downloaded it onto my kindle and I'll start tomorrow. It's a bit long so it may take me a while.

message 59: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Many congratulations on your new home Janice! Enjoy!

I got lucky cuz I just happen to be reading a book that qualifies! The Death of Bees. Can't link from my phone. The author moved from Scotland to Los Angeles, California.

The book is, oh horror, 2 days overdue at the library! It's taking me so long to read a book these days. Plus, Almeta and I have relatives in town and have a busy schedule. So, I have no idea when I'll actually finish it!

If they didn't give me benedryl on Wednesday before chemo, I'd be able to read! But I get soooo darned sleepy!! Hate that! The 2 previous times I've arrived with a backpack stuffed with entertainment and projects. So far no progress!!! Ugh!

Thanks, Debra. :)

Here's the link. The Death of Bees

Can you renew the book at the library if you need to?

message 61: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I'm going to start my book today. The Red Tree. The main character leaves Atlanta for Rhode Island.

message 62: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Enjoy your new house Janice!

I am currently listening to a book by Alexander McCall Smith.
It fits! Iyeah!

message 63: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 1788 comments Think I'm going to read The Kite Runner. The author has moved all around the world, and I've heard so many good things about the book.

message 64: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments I'm reading Refuge - the MC flees Iran as a little girl with her mom and brother, ends up in the U.S. in Oklahoma and now lives in Amsterdam. In between she visits London and Madrid so far...

message 65: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4019 comments I've finished my book for this challenge. We need a reporting thread.

message 66: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Lanelle. I'll get it up right away.

message 67: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'll be reading Circling the Sun for the challenge. If anyone is interested, Casceil set up a buddy read for it, and it would also fit the group read of this month.

Lanelle | 4019 comments Janice wrote: "Thanks for bringing that to my attention, Lanelle. I'll get it up right away."

Thank you, Janice. I hope the rest of the month goes smoothly for you.

message 69: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments LOL! You can see I'm already distracted. :)

message 70: by Cherie (last edited Aug 09, 2017 01:50PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Janice - on the points for cover - has an award seal on it. Does "New York Times Best Seller" get me one?

This is the cover I have for the ebook version I downloaded from the library. Circling the Sun by Paula McLain .

message 71: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments No, that is not an award. It's a designation. It's like the seals that say "Oprah's Book Club", or "Heather's Pick" (Chapters in Canada).

message 72: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Got it, Janice. I had to try. I may not use the book, but it is a possibility until I have time to read something else. I have two books on my TBR list with "Moving" in the title. I own one and the other is available. I have other options on hand too, but all glue stick prizes. I am still looking at the setting criteria. I must have a book set in Canada on my book shelf!

message 73: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments The book I'm currently reading could be a top score (perhaps not winning, but high) but I'm already using that for the survey challenge :/ All my other options are in the lower regions.

message 74: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Congratulations, Janice. The house is beautiful! I am so glad you made through your struggles. I hate moving. Good luck with that. And then I will wait to see you decorate your home. :)

message 75: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Thanks Pragya. :)

message 76: by Beth (new)

Beth (eparks4232) | 2556 comments Congrats on the move. I'm off to gopher now that I'm done with the year-long.

message 77: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments So Hunter's Run wouldn't work for this challenge so I used it for the yearly challenge. But my current read The Secrets She Keeps will as the author was born in Australia and has lived and worked in many different countries across the world. I just need to finish it by the end of the month.

message 78: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I was planning on reading The Secrets She Keeps soon. Never thought of it for this challenge.

message 79: by Poongothai (new)

I had already renewed the book 5 times! lol

But I got lucky and was able to convince a librarian to return-it/check-it-out-again over the phone. I had to put it down to read other books, so I started over yesterday. Seems I'm suffering from some short-term memory loss along with all my other cancer symptoms! Aaargh! Hoping I'll have it finished by this Saturday for the toppler.

Hope you are enjoying your new home!

message 81: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Debra wrote: "Hope you are enjoying your new home! ."

I'm not moved in yet. I'm moving in the non-essential things. All my books have been moved. Some may say that those are essential, but I've got my iPad with scores of ebooks and audiobooks.

There are things that need to be done before I can move my office and large furniture in. Area carpets have been shipped. Electrician comes next week to install power outlets. Internet is being installed Friday, the 25th. Men with muscles and a trailer are doing the grunt work on the 26th. Then, I will have moved completely.

message 82: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Guess I've not been paying close attention to your updates, Janice! Sounds like you are "moving" right along, tho. Lots of work, isn't it? I dread my next move... when it happens, I hope it will be our forever home!

message 83: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments This is going to have to be my forever home, because I don't think I can do it again.

message 84: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Amen to that, Janice!

message 85: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I can't believe i actually finished a book for a challenge. It feels like it's been ages.

message 86: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Yeah, Sarah!

message 87: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments Yay, Sarah! Funny how it's such a good feeling. lol

message 88: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments Janice - I have a question for you. In my book, Everything You Want Me to Be, the story is told from 3 perspectives: Sheriff Del Goodman who is investigating the case, Hattie Hoffman, the murdered girl, and the new English teacher, Peter Lund. Would each of those people be considered a main character? Or would it just be Hattie, since the blurb, in my opinion, really presents her as the MC? (The English teacher just moved to the town.)

message 89: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments If it's told from 3 different POV's, I'd think that they were significant characters and could be counted for the challenge.

message 90: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments OK, thanks, Janice.

message 91: by Annerlee (new)

Annerlee | 2871 comments I'm currently reading Rebecca - well, listening to it on audiobook. She's moved in to Manderley, so I think I'll be able to use it for the challenge, if I finish on time, My reading's all over the place at the moment. I'm finding it hard to concentrate on one thing at once.

message 92: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I think a few of us have been having that problem Annerlee. I know I have.

message 93: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments Yup. I've been saying that recently too.

message 94: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments I'm with you as well. I think I've been starting more books than I've been finishing.

message 95: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I finally finished The Death of Bees a couple of days ago. It was wonderful and for people of all ages, not just young adult. Great story and characters. I'll go report it now, before my feeble brain forgets!

message 96: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 2086 comments So I just finished The Secret of Spellshadow Manor and think it will fit this challenge, but I have questions. The kids move into this school of magic but its not voluntary. The one is put under a spell to get her there and the other one follows her, but they do move in, so that would count, right? Then if it does, for scoring the kids on the cover it would count as long as they're under 18, right?
Congrats on your new place!

message 97: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Lori Z wrote: "So I just finished The Secret of Spellshadow Manor and think it will fit this challenge, but I have questions. The kids move into this school of magic but its not voluntary. The one..."

Yes to both.

Thanks. It's starting to feel more like home everyday. I had to force myself to sit at my desk and do some work this morning. I'm having a hard time focusing on the work that pays the bills.

message 98: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 2086 comments Yay, thanks Janice! It would be hard to focus on work, when you're probably thinking about everything else you could be doing, but got to pay for that new place somehow. Hate when real life gets in the way.
