I remembered Makin and Rike and the Nuban with his massively big crossbow. I think this must still be during Prince of Thorns. He comes back to see his father I think in the first book - or was if the second book?

Loved the interaction with Jorg and crew. Did we know brother Emmer was a woman?

I also wished I remembered more of Broken Empire timeline wise.

When they get onto Roma Road, they pass villagers fleeing the sack of Norwood. This happened in Chapter 7 of Prince of Thorns, so so far the timeline seems to parallel the beginning of the Broken Empire trilogy.

I thought it was a good intersection with the previous series. Fun for those who have read it but ok for those who have not.

As I have read the first book of Broken Empire, I was able to recognize few characters from that series. Also we now have an angel of light Barquel perched on Jalan's shoulder and Loki's daughter Asquel perched on Snori's shoulder. It's somewhat like Rand in Wheel of time hearing Lewis Therin's voice inside his head.

I wonder what these two angels will do to our heroes on road. So far I am liking the journey they are taking across the empire.
