Good work, Lynn. Don't worry, I know that feeling! Some stories are just not for you, or for you at that point in time. I have to be in the right mood for any type of romance in books. I can be a bit of a cynic at times!
Finished my 2nd book
I really recommend this, not all stories were that amazing but some just moved me to tears other made me laugh out loud.'
Really hope we one day can have this available to all humans out there.
Congrats to everyone who had completed their challenges and made profess as well! There's still time left for those of us who haven't finished so don't lose your determination! I've hit a sort of reading lull in this challenge for many reasons, which happens to us all. I'm going to peruse what everyone's reads so far for further recommendations! They all look very interesting and promising. I'm on almost exclusively on mobile otherwise I would respond individually. Happy reading!
It happens to us all, Courtney! I hope you manage to find something from the thread or listopias. Even if you don't make it this month, reading diversely is so important, so I hope people will add a few more LGBTQ+ books to their to-read lists!
I read Tipping the Velvet, which had been on my TBR a long time. Excellent historical fiction! And I thus finished my huge one-book goal for this challenge. :-)1/1
Congrats, Mindy! That one's been on my shelf for years, as well—ever since I watched the BBC series. I'm moving it up the list in the hope that I'll get to it before yet another decade goes by. =)
I'm almost done with Liesmith. If anyone that likes fantasy/Norse lore is still looking for something, I recommend it! Just don't go in to it looking for something too serious, or you'll probably be disappointed. The M/M romance can get a little saccharine or angst-y, but I personally find that kind of works for this particular book.
Updated to here. Four days left, keep at it everyone! I love hearing thoughts and recommendations when you're finished :)
Updated just to say I have officially finished the book!I really enjoyed it! I don't think it is everyone's cup of tea, maybe not even most people's, but I found it to be interesting and a lot of fun.
1/1
Congrats on reaching your targets Klynn and Delitealex.Good luck BlurryBug, you've got a few days still!
Finished a third book to complete the challenge. I wasn't able to get a copy of Orlando in time from the library, so I've substituted a police procedural about a lesbian detective's investigation when her partner is murdered. I've been reading this series for several years and I just noticed that the Tom Thorne books have really developed several positive gay characters. There have been two books now with DI Nicola Tanner (also read Die of Shame this month), and she was excellent in this one. ✔Love Like Blood by Mark Billingham -- 08/28/17
Challenge Complete 3/3.
Thanks for leading us Janine!
Finished Orlando and it was just as good this time around as when I read it 10ish years ago.4/4 books read!
I'm very sorry to report that I haven't found the time to complete my challenge. I have been away the last two weeks and hadn't had as much reading time as I expected. I have however, got a few books on the list now that I will be endeavouring to finish before the year is out!
Meant to meantion a sort of bonus book I read earlier in the month: Curtsies & Conspiracies. It is on the young side of YA (13-14 year old age group), but still well written and fun. There is a secondary character in the series that is a 10 year old female. While it isn't specifically stated that she is transexual, she does only dress in male clothing (in a Victorian setting, so that is a bigger deal than it may seem), and one of the major plot points in this entry to the series is arranging things so that she can attend an all male school as a male.
I'm not counting it towards this challenge, but I thought it was worth mentioning in case others may be interested in the series. (The first book is actually Etiquette & Espionage.)
Slightly slow to do the end of the month update as I went away without my laptop, so apologies!Congrats to everyone who completed their challenge, and special thanks to all who gave recommendations. I hope whether you completed or not, you'll keep reading fabulous LGBTQ+ books :D
I didn't finish it in time for the challenge, but the miseducation of Cameron post was a captivating and arresting story!
