How do I read this book?

So I initially read this five or six years ago and had no idea what the hell I'd read, so I'm about to dive back into it. My question is how should I go about reading it? Do I read it straight through, stopping at the footnotes? Do I read just the footnotes and then the actual prose? Prose first? I would love some advice from fellow readers. Thank you.

I read it and stopped at each footnote, read the footnote, then got back to the main text. It worked well for me.

Just be prepared for the book to be... weird. I love it, but it's very unconventional.

Read it all -the footnotes are part of the story. What a trip!

I don't know if you'll have any idea of what the hell you've read even after a second go-around. :)

I started with the main body of text on each page, stopping at each footnote. That progressed pretty quick into reading the main text and reading the footnotes after that, page by page.

After a while I quit reading the footnotes altogether, I think, in favor of trying to keep continuity going in each storyline. Of course, since I actually bought the book I've gone back at my leisure to look at them when I want.

Since you can't believe the book's footnotes any more than the claims to which they refer (which may or may not be real/true), they're interesting, but I don't know how relevant they are.

Front to back, then side to side ;)

So i read this book when it was new in paper back, is it available in ebook, and does that just complicate things, i am thinking of re reading it

I would read the text and then the associated footnote(s). I can't believe so many people are telling you to skip the footnotes altogether. It's part of the experience of the book. You will eventually get used to the format without letting it distract you.

It doesn't make a difference since it's all a chaotic jumble anyway.

Don't let the tricks fool you. Read it from beginning to end. The footnotes are nice, but not that important. In the end, it's a two-track plot that, IMHO, comes together nicely at the end.

Gered So much important things in the footnotes... Echoes of things that happen in the main text as well as blatant reversals

Stefan The footnotes were kinda boring and unnecessary imho, the rest is great :)

Personally I wouldn't bother reading it at all. I unfortunately did and will never get that month back that I wasted reading from one page to another then round in circles! Save your brain and leave it well alone.
