Sorry I would say the genre is sci-fi shifter alien romance. Mature readers as they have descriptive sex scenes. Read on amazon e-book.
Well I found it myself...it turns out it was released last year although I thought it was longer! The first book is called Sarazens Claim by Isobel Wroth for any who are interested
So humans are beginning to explore the universe and the spaceship either malfunctions or is attacked I can't recall. A few are saved by these feline alien shifters (although the humans don't know they can shift until later). The shifters are part of their worlds military and apparently there are thousands of males on the ship doing deep space exploration. The leader scents his mates and allows all his officers to switch guarding the humans every once in a while so they can test out their scents too. One of the human males is a complete asshole and we find out in another book, second or third in the series that he used to rape one of the women regularly - he was in a position of power on the human ship. So they start matching up/mating and the females seem to be getting sick so I think about three of them are taken to the medbay where they begin to shift into big cats. I think the one who was raped shifted in her room with her mate? The women are pretty sassy and they head back to the shifters home world so they can participate in the 'hunt' to find your mate. So they're put on opposite ends of this Forrest and the mates have to find each other by scent alone. They do and have a feast etc...then we find out the prince of the home world is mated to this female who has been wearing this pheromone which tricked the prince into thinking she was his mate, the thing with mates though is that they can only reproduce with their fated one and they'd been together for years and no kids...she ends up deposed or killed can't remember and the prince finds out one of the human women is his.
This all happens over the span on a few books. Apologies for the rambling but that's all I can remember. Hopefully this tickles someone's memory!
