I tried editing the author for the 2nd quote putting Winston S. Churchill to merge them later, but I get an error.

did you try merging the whole author and get the error? (should merge the quote then too afaik)
or just the author on the quote?

Oh ok, I found it under a user's favorite quotes, so I thought it had at least one like even though it didn't show.
