Jim"
This sounds facinating.

It is like 'Perks' on 'roids- in every single way. Profound writing, developed + nuanced characters, harrowing emotion, AND it goes much deeper into much heavier (imo) issues. Also, it is (obviously) much more adult than 'Perks'; which has an intended audience of teen readers. I own both of these books, and re-read 'Perks' quite often as I really enjoy it (and I loved the movie adaptation as well- really captured the book, at times)...
Anyways, 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' is a book you only need to visit once, because it will sear itself into you in just the one read. Thoughts from/about the book will linger, and I wish that I had Goodreads THEN, on MY 1st reading, to chat, years ago...
Since then, the movie of 'Kevin' has been released, and is also a great film representation of the epistolary novel. Now? I watch the film version of 'Kevin' and re-read the book of 'Perks' often. Incidentally, BOTH films star the amazing Ezra Miller. In fact, these two books have led me to this great actor! (Check out his work in the movie, 'The Stanford Prison Experiment'- wow.)
Sorry! I love books and movies pretty much equally, and sometimes drag film into book arguments, which is probably a no-no...Sorry! --Jen from Quebec :0)
(PS) Yeah, so even though I have voted, I just had to stick my big opinion out there

Ohhhhh Good one!

(PS) Sorry about my earlier rant, above. I get 'fired up' when talking books and film, sometimes. *blush*
