Strange the Dreamer
question
AHHH!! I'm done...and need someone to talk to!

I just finished reading Strange the Dreamer and am not really sure how I feel about the book. While I was browsing the shelves of the library, looking for something thought-provoking to read in the YA section I stumbled upon this book by chance. Knowing that is was Laini Taylor and that it was the first in a, I think, duology, I checked it out. Having just read a contemporary novel before this one, I found it kind of hard to get into the whole fantasy and wonder-esqe style of this book. But, once I adjusted to the realm of dreams and dreamers that this book began to create, it didn't take me long to finish. This brings me to the things about this book I have been DYING to tell someone about; and they are:
1. Thyon Nero is a FANTASTIC character. The dynamic between him and Lazlo really got to me (especially the part where Lazlo was like "and I have Miracles for Breakfast"...I was DEAD). I don't understand why but he kept exuding this Yuri Plisetsky vibe (the young champion from Yuri on Ice), which made me like him all the more.
2. The relationship made sense, but I thought that its development was rushed. I feel like the ridiculously fast pace of the progression of "the" relationship was just to set up the necessary foundations to end the book the way it ended (if that makes sense).
3. RUZA IS AWESOME!

I read this one when it first came out so I might be a little bit fuzzy on the details. (I also forget who Ruza is). But I totally agree with you Taneisha that the relationship felt right and made sense but it really felt rushed at the end. It was so fast and intense and it was definitely done that way so that the ending could happen the way it did. It wasn't insta love IMO, it started out really well with the curiosity and getting to understand each other but just spiraled near the end.
Lauren, I totally get the Draco Malfoy vibe. There are some deep issues there of feeling inferior and needing to live up to the family name.
I really love the way that she writes, but towards the end I was feeling like the book could have been shorter actually. Still, that ending made me pretty curious as to where she's taking book two.
