Ctgt | 7 comments First couple of stories were okay but Worlds Between My Teeth was top notch. IMO a great short story needs enough information to draw me in but not so much that I can't let my imagination run wild. Tim hit the mark with that story.

Thank you! WORLDS is a personal favorite. I had fun writing that one.

Kyleigh (spookyism) | 21 comments I've read four stories in and so far my favorite has been THE CHERRY COLLECTORS. I thought the atmosphere and tone were so creepy and I thought the ending was so satisfying.

message 66: by Kimberly (last edited Aug 09, 2017 08:07PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) I've read the first 5 or 6 now, and while I would rate them all high, individually speaking, "Worlds Between My Teeth" stands out as a nearly PERFECT story! CTGT said it well in his comment (above)--enough information to give you the perfect visual, yet not so much that you couldn't "think" about the added horrors that could be there yet, unseen.... Truly haunting. :D

Vicki Willis I have read the first 3 and they have all been excellent. My favorite line so far was from The Cherry Collectors and was (view spoiler). I laughed out loud.

I did, too, at that one! I think I even marked a couple quotes to use for the review, eventually. :)

Barbara Senteney (trollbridgeblogger) | 18 comments You are welcome Tim if you have checked out my reviews and book shelves then you realize I am very blunt with reviews, and have no issue with posting someone's book as a waste of time, I f I like it I like it, if I don't I say so. That's is what a reviewer does, you have to have tough skin to write or review, luckily I'm part crocodile, lol.

Ctgt | 7 comments Really enjoyed the novella at the end, dystopian crime/PI story....in my wheelhouse. Overall a solid collection with a handful of outstanding stories. I'll be posting my review shortly. Thanks for the copy Tim.

Vicki Willis I finished it.
I rated it 5 stars. Vicki's Review

I was really impressed with your range of writing, Tim. Some were very short and some were longer, but they all were good. You also had so many different types of horror in one book!
My questions are:
When you get your idea do you already know if it will be a short story or a novella? Do you prefer writing one over the other?
Do you just write one thing at a time until it is done or do you have projects in all different stages?
Do you have a daily writing schedule/plan that you follow?

I really loved the section at the end that told where your ideas came from. I was wondering as I read.

Hey Vicki! I'm glad you enjoyed my collection and thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

Here are the answers to your amazing questions!

When you get your idea do you already know if it will be a short story or a novella? Do you prefer writing one over the other?

So, when I have an idea I usually know whether it will be a short or something longer. On few occasions a short story has gotten away from me and ended up being something longer. In that case I let the story go where it wants. I'm not sure which I prefer over the other (each have their charm), although novels and longer works tend to sell better. Also, I think writing novels is my strength. Short stories pose more of a challenge.

Do you just write one thing at a time until it is done or do you have projects in all different stages?

I do several drafts of whatever I'm working on, so after I complete a draft of one thing I'll switch and work on a draft of something else, putting the first thing aside so I can come back to it a month or two later with fresh eyes. I'll have three or four projects going on at once, all in various stages.

Do you have a daily writing schedule/plan that you follow?

I try to wake up early each morning before the rest of the house and before I head to my day job. Doesn't always happen that way and sometimes I write at night. I don't have a strict routine, though, I'm more productive in the morning with fresh coffee. I squeeze the words in when I can, as often as I can. I do have a goal of ten thousand words a week, which I hit sometimes. Sometimes I don't and that's okay, too. I try harder next week.

Thank you for your questions, Vicki! I enjoyed answering them!

Finished up Worlds tonight and thought it was a very solid offering. Worlds Between My Teeth, The Cherry Collectors, Under New Skies, The Ice King and The Organ Harvest were my favorites. You can check out my review here -

https://kenmckinley.wordpress.com/201...

Speaking of The Organ Harvest, I really enjoyed the October John character and his cohorts. Are there/will there be other October John tales? Where did the idea for this come from?

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) I just finished a few minutes ago (review will be up this week and I'll post back). I was going to ask the same thing as Ken regarding October John. :)

Personal favorites are: "The Man Who Never Frowned", "The Pumpkin Tree Giveth, and The Pumpkin Tree Taketh Away", "Worlds Between My Teeth", "Box Game", "The Ice King", "The Lemurs", and "The Cherry Collectors".

Hey, Ken! Thanks for the review. I'm happy you enjoyed the collection!

On October John: I had every intension to make it a series, but it never really found an audience. I included it in the collection because it never received a print version and I thought it brought something unique to an already diverse group of stories. If there ends up being enough interest, a continuation of October John's story is very possible.

As far as the idea - I always wanted to write a PI story, but I wanted to set my PI story in a post-plague New York City where the supernatural is possible and weird occurrences are somewhat common. Throw in a strange cult, and there you have it! I also thought it'd be interesting to see the story unfold through John's partner's perspective rather than John himself.

Thanks for the questions, Ken. And thanks again for inviting me to the Group Read this month. Loved it!

Jennifer | 52 comments I'm really sorry but I really struggled with this collection. I haven't read the longer story at the end but I hope to come back to it soon.

I loved the ideas for the stories, The Lemures was excellent, but the ending didn't work for me. The same happened for the next few stories. They seemed to end a page or a few sentences before I wanted them to.

So, it made the experience of reading the others less enjoyable as I was expecting the ending to not work. Maybe it was my own fault as if you're expecting something to fail then it does.

Sorry the stories didn't work for you, Jennifer. But thanks for giving my work a chance! I really appreciate your honest feedback.

Jennifer | 52 comments No problem Tim. I'm definitely going to give the longer story at the end a try soon!

I wasn't sure whether to post my comment or not and I hope I didn't come across as not constructive. The stories had a really good premise so I wanted to give a bit of feedback.

I look forward to read what you do next !

Tim, can you tell us what you have in store for us for the rest of 2017 and beyond?

Tim Meyer | 27 comments Ken wrote: "Tim, can you tell us what you have in store for us for the rest of 2017 and beyond?"

Sure, Ken. I released two novels in 2017. One came out in May through Severed Press, titled SHARKWATER BEACH, and the other was the third book in the post-apocalyptic series (SUNFALL) I co-write with Chad Scanlon and Pete Draper. I'm currently shopping a novel called KILL HILL CARNAGE and a novella titled THE SWITCH HOUSE. There has been interest for both. Hopefully they'll find publishers soon and (fingers crossed) come out in 2018. I recently finished the first draft of the final book in my DEMON BLOOD series, and I'm aiming to get that out in 2018. I'm also working on a crime/thriller novel, which has been interesting considering this book has no supernatural elements in it, an extreme departure from mostly everything I've written. I'm having tons of fun with that manuscript. Besides that, I'm also working on another untitled horror novel, plotting a weird western with heavy horror elements, and attempting some collaborations with different authors. 2018 is going to be a big year for me if everything goes according to schedule.

Barbara Senteney (trollbridgeblogger) | 18 comments I like your stories, I was very happy to be a part of this group. I continue to review and volunteer my time to review hoping to be on every authors ARC list. Ebooks are ok but there is nothing like holding one in your hands and admiring it on your shelf. Really enjoyed your spooky tales, too bad it wasn't October would have been great halloween reading, good luck in your career

I can't wait! I want to thank you again for being our guest author. This has been a lot of fun for us and the members dig getting introduced to the high quality work from someone they may not have had the pleasure of discovering yet. We also appreciate your being candid and open. It makes it so much more enjoyable for the reader when they can learn a little background on the story and the author behind it. Some writers get it and some don't. I'm here to tell you that you get it. Thanks again and we hope you'll come back for another of your releases!
