I agree Sundara, (view spoiler)[the story she is telling is very captivating! And I'm with you on all of the male names! It took me a couple of chapters to learn who was who. ;) (hide spoiler)]

I was really confused at first (view spoiler)[regarding who everyone was, and how they related to the story. It almost felt like I was reading book two instead of book one. But, now that I know who everybody is, I'm really enjoying the story. (hide spoiler)]

I love (view spoiler)[ the banter between Shahrzad and Khalid! They are two very strong characters, and I love watching them find each other's weaknesses. (hide spoiler)]

Tariq (view spoiler)[is going to cause problems! I think that his friend is cool, and I like the bird, but I'm not so sure how I feel about him... (hide spoiler)]

Musa (view spoiler)[ is an interesting fellow! I'm excited to see how his magical abilities effect the story line. (hide spoiler)]

In the Chapter- The beginning is the end
(view spoiler)[Tariq seems to think that Shazi is his responsibility. But Shazi's tone seemed like that she was once in love with him. She did mention as first love. So even I think him going to retrieve her is a bit shaky with the plans she's having in her head. This book continuously seems to surprise me. I thought Despina was like the female friend character in the enemy land who helps in dressing up our heroines. And Jalal to be the competitor contributing to the typical triangle love element which we see in YA but god was I wrong on both counts! I have so much respect for Jalal after hearing about his children. I suspect that bound book is where the magic element is laid upon. Rahim doesn't look like a main character but I think he is going to support Tariq especially when he volunteered to go along with Tariq.
And loving the slow chemistry between Shazi and Khalid. (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[This was a REALLY good book that didn't stop surprising me. I loved how Shazi and Khalid supported each other. And I loved that scene when he found out that she was there to kill him, and he gave her the chance to do it. I thought that really showed how much he cared for her.

I'm not sure how I feel about Tariq. I don't really like him enough to root for him, and it should be obvious that she isn't going to choose him.

I do really like how the plot of the book, but I hated the ending! It ended to abruptly for me, and left a bad feeling. I don't really know what's going on, did Khalid snap, where is Shazi, is Despina okay? I would be okay with the ending if there were 50 or so pages to explain how we got there. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[yes!! Ending seemed a off putting and abrupt. I need explanations! And that letter sounded like Khalid knows about Shazi going away and his reaction to that was not mentioned at all. Starting Rose and the dagger right away. Need to know about Jalal and Despina; Jahandar's weird power; Shazi (duh) and topmost is that blanket Musa gave. Little disappointed that the magical powers of Shazi was not introduced into this first instalment (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]
