When Cavanaugh gets to the labor camp and Carrie sees him, she connects with him through sheer will. Was this their personal connection or something typical for the circumstances?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments She was so encouraged to see an American there that she couldn't even consider that he wasn't there to get her out. She had no idea that she was there because the government didn't ever want her to see freedom again. I think is was a typical reaction for Carrie in that situation.

I got that Gerard wanted us to believe that there was a special connection specific to these two, beyond her appealing to him as one American to another. I believe there was something more because that silent communication continued throughout the rescue. These two were destined for each other.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 849 comments Carrie picked up on Cav's really subtle cues to stay cool. They had great awareness of each other right from the beginning.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I think it took Cav longer to see the connection (a matter of hours), but he has not been in the desperate situation that she's been already. She is going to perish if he doesn't help her, so she was first to try to connect to him. He was good to do what he did to let her know she was noticed....
