Welcome Pebbles. You'll get many excellent suggestions here. In the vein of Chandler and Hammett, I just read a collection of short stories by Ross Macdonald, featuring PI Lew Archer which is very much in the style of your authors. I have some Chandler books on my shelf to read too.
