The Chemist By Stephenie Meyer - Restarting August 8th 2019
Just read the first chapter. Agree, it's good to get immersed in the world immediately but I want answers about her previous role/what they'll want her to do.

You've got a bit further than me-I was caught up in another book. It's very different to anything else I've read by her-dare I say it, more adult focused.

Up to ch5. The first meeting with Daniel on the train is at odds with the picture we've been given. Is this a set-up?
Karen wrote: "Up to ch5. The first meeting with Daniel on the train is at odds with the picture we've been given. Is this a set-up?"Yeah...all I'm going to say is that we aren't getting the full picture this early in the book. Take everything with a grain of salt.
Karen wrote: "Up to ch9. That makes a little more sense, but now I'm wondering who exactly is after what."I can't wait for you to get to the 'big reveal'
Ch25 - They're starting to piece together how they were connected and THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THIS TUNNEL!
Karen wrote: "End of ch30...words have gone! No...."Yeah, that was my exact reaction. This book man. What a ride.
Finished. I'm sure there'll be detractors and, yes, there are some issues but this kept the momentum for the most part. Some cracking scenes.

And as agreed upon outside of this thread, we will try to finish this book in 5 days, so we need to read at least 104 pages a day. That means I'm 99 pages behind schedule hahaha.
The beginning was super slow...I really had to push myself to keep reading. But now I'm on page 202 and it's definitely picked up the pace
Yeah, I'm on page 201 right now. I was actually falling asleep trying to read it at first. Her thinking is so methodical that it gets boring.

It got to the point where I zoned out, missed a few key lines of her thought process, and was totally lost and had to reread the paragraph.

Yesss, and it takes so long to read anyways. You have to get up to 70 pages before there is a steady stream of dialogue.

She used to work for the U.S. government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning.
Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.
When her former handler offers her a way out, she realizes it's her only chance to erase the giant target on her back. But it means taking one last job for her ex-employers. To her horror, the information she acquires only makes her situation more dangerous.
Resolving to meet the threat head-on, she prepares for the toughest fight of her life but finds herself falling for a man who can only complicate her likelihood of survival. As she sees her choices being rapidly whittled down, she must apply her unique talents in ways she never dreamed of.
In this tautly plotted novel, Meyer creates a fierce and fascinating new heroine with a very specialized skill set. And she shows once again why she's one of the world's bestselling authors.
