I liked this section - it didn't have the big reveals of the first, but things are progressing nicely. With the "sorceress must die" prophecy I really wonder if it will be Briga or if it'll be Uthred's daughter. Also, I'm glad that Uthred went to rescue her, even though it was against orders. Those leaders give dumb orders - like father like daughter.

Things seem to be going to well for Uthred. Now I'm waiting for things to wrong..

I do like his son in law. It's nice seeing his daughter again. I started season 2 of the show and her mother is in it, which makes me miss her all the more. It also has Hild too. Uthred's current woman isn't nearly as likeable as they were.

I'm still hoping we get to see Hild again at some point.

Yeah Hild and wife #1 were great. I feel like we don't really know the current woman all that well - she hasn't seemed to have a ton of personality.

I really like how fierce Uthred's daughter is.

Spot on Suzanne. Definitely not as much happening, just kind of prepping for the end but when I look at my progress the book was almost halfway done by the end of section one. That prophecy added a nice bit of tension to the story. I knew as soon as Uhtred ask Aethelflaed, "if it was your daughter what would you do?", he was going to try and rescue his daughter. I liked the small section towards the end about the traits of a strong leader.

Nooooooooo, wife #1 was that horrible Christian bitch who disappeared into a convent. Gisela was wife #2 !

I'm looking forward to section 3 now. I had seen it was called War of the Brothers in the index, and during part 1 I assumed it would be the story of Finan and Conall. But now it looks like the brothers in question are Ragnall and Sigtryggr.

Oooh you are so right. I totally forgot about wife #1 - she was indeed awful!
